And no one to bring the ball out of defence and move it around. No chance they would be a good midfield at the top level.
    McTominay
    McGregor
    McGinn

Add in Ryan Jack or Stuart Armstrong depending on who/where we are playing.

Oh yeah, for Scotland that is true. For Man United, they'd need a 3rd player in there as well. They would not be a good 2.

The midfield three Gilmour, McGregor and McGinn have been brilliant for Scotland lately. McTominay either plays in the back three or doesn’t play, unless one of them is injured IMO.

I think he’s a quality premier league player but not at the top end, which is what Man Utd need. If he was playing for Everton that would be more his level.

I would agree if Scotland were playing tomorrow. But I think it also depends on form come March.

I prefer McTominay to McGregor but can’t argue with the performance of those three last time out.

It’s nice to be talking about which quality players have to miss out for our national team these days.

Sorry I was at work and completely forgot all about GIlmour.

Our midfield is set for the next 5+ years and it's going to take something pretty special to get past the current bunch.

Leeds Utds Cooper is a doubt for the March Internationals, due to injury, so presume McTominay may slot into the back 3.

Along with John McGinn doesn’t get the credit he deserves down south. Causes they’re both from up here

I'm not convinced by him, albeit I don't watch much English football.

When he's come into the Scotland team the balance of the midfield has looked poorer. I actually quite like him at CB - obviously there are defensive issues with him not being a natural in that position but I think that at times it has been good for Scotland to have someone playing there who is comfortable on the ball and right footed.

He seems to be synonymous with a United team that underachieves although I fully accept that it's a bit unfair to put that all on his shoulders. It might be interesting to see how he'd get on in a team with a more defined playing style and less egotistical ********s.

Re Darren Fletcher - Darren Fletcher has an enviable medal collection and was trusted by the best manager of all time to carry out a specific task. If McTominay achieves a fraction of what he achieved, he'll be doing ok.

Completely different players apart from being Scottish and playing for Manchester United.

Not really. Both central midfield players?

Wouldn’t even make the City, Chelsea or Liverpool match day squads, therein lies Man U’s problems.

They have a squad of 2nd rate EPL players, a manager trying to play a system that's clearly not working and having to rely on an ageing front line of Ronaldo and Cavani, needs a total clear out which will take about 3 windows to achieve.

Yes. But it’s the standard cool line to come out with when someone tries to compare two players in the same position.

McTominay is a cracking footballer. Unfortunately for him he’s playing in a very poor performing team of who are meant to be superstars.

He doesn’t even make Liverpool’s match day squad with 11 players out with Covid. He’s nowhere near good enough for any top 4 team. McGinn on the other hand is the real deal.

It’s not a standard cool line I just don’t think he’s as good as Fletcher!

Not saying he’s a bad player he just not the standard you’d expect at that club.

No, not you Aldo. The old “completely different players” one.

Oh ok, I thought he maybe would in a hypothetical scenario. Apparently he already doesn’t.

He’s a regular topic of conversation with a Jambo pal of mine.

I don’t think he’s Man Utd’s level. He’d never regular game for Chelsea, City or Liverpool and is nowhere near the level of the great Man Utd teams of recent times.

Don’t get me wrong, I do rate him but I see him more as solid PL pro and more of an Everton/Villa type player. My Jambo pal thinks he’s world class, would get in any team in the world and was raging he wasn’t in the running for PFA player of the year last year.

    You don’t play almost 200 games for United if you’re mediocre . He’s a quality player …

You do if the Man U side your playing for is mediocre.

Nah. They where second in the league last season . They may not be quite at the level to win it, but they are in no way mediocre. It’s a very high standard. In any objective relative terms he is a quality footballer .

Fairly sure McTominey has never been from up here.

Mediocre is possibly a bit strong but he’s not top level. And the Scotland midfield is better balanced without him.

What do you mean by better balanced, out of interest?

I’ve seen it said a couple of times now and not sure I follow.
