    RIP Frank Worthington

A man of his era. Like Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh and others, it's difficult to see his like thriving today.

His autobiography was called 'One Hump or Two?'. Very much a man of his era.

I had pleasure of his company once at a football dinner in London. A genuinely nice guy.

Lived life to the full, very good player to boot.

An absolute product of the 1970's with his Sh**ging, gambling and drinking but also a very talented and gifted footballer who gained 8 England caps.

I always liked his quip to the question

"Did you score more off the field or on the field".❓

"Definetly on the field" Frank would say in mock outrage but "It was a close run thing".
    he would add mischeviously ✅.

He had career stats of not far off 250 goals.😂

He always reminded me of that tacky uncle everyone has: bad clothes and cheap aftershave; loves Elvis and country & western music; drinks Special Brew at home and pints of heavy down the Miners Welfare Club.

About 20 years ago or so, I was fortunate to spend some time in a sauna with Frank, and we had a great chat for a bit

And before you pile in here, it was the Marriott in Gateshead, where he was for a sporting dinner

A great player and an even bigger character from my youth. So sad to see so many of the greats from the 70s departing down the tunnel for the final time lately. Fabulous memories.

    RIP Frank.

Did he not say that modern players trap the ball further than he could kick it. They don't make them like him anymore. RIP

Remember sitting at the traffic lights at the bottom of Kirk Brae in Edinburgh at least 25 years ago and Frank crossed the road right in front of me, unmistakable and the obligatory long haired blonde on his arm.
