    Athens derby

The recent derby between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos was halted by the German referee. Panathinaikos fans were apparently attacking the Olympiakos bench and tear gas that the police had used outside the ground was drifting into the stadium. Only 8 arrests were made, all of which lead to automatic banning orders. Olympiakos will be awarded a 3 - 0 win and Panathinaikos (home team) will be deducted 6 points.
And we thought we have problems.

I went to the Belgrade Derby in the partizan end home and away, at the home game the red star fans set the away end on fire after losing 2.1, the result pretty much confirmed the league for partizan. Atmosphere was electric ! Good people tho, they fans we met loved the fact we came over to see there team, at the away game we got locked in after for easily a good hour after a 3-1 pumpin.
Belgrade is a great city to visit aswell

Do you know the origins of the Shamrock and Green & White for Panathinikos?

Many an Ayrshire Junior derby would make the Athens Derby like a kindergarten Tea Party.

I believe it was purely picked at the time as a symbol of good luck! Could be wrong though!

Panathinikos have a tryfilli, as there emblem and not a shamrock, don't know why they play in green though.
    There is zero Irish connections.

It's been announced that the final 20 minutes of the game will have to be played out to determine the result. Panathinaikos will be fined 94,500 Euros, deducted 3 points and play 2 games with no fans. Apparently the ref called the game off half an hour after the teams left the pitch, but he should have waited an hour to see if order was restored. Can't see them flying in a foreign ref to do a 20 minute game.

I'll try and find out for you - their nickname is Βασηλακια (Vasilakia) which refers to the use of vaseline in homosexual encounters. Not surprisingly in Greek football, the nicknames are decided by the clubs opponents, not the clubs or fans themselves.

They should just close their stadium for the rest of the season. Panathinaikos have previous for this and it never seems to change.
