I totally agree, but surely it's the home team's responsibility to get the pitch playable?

Cowdenbeath aren't happy about the decision.

"The referee's made his decision and we've got to abide by that, but we are hugely disappointed," Ewing said. "We didn't call the referee in. We felt the pitch was fine."
Cowdenbeath manager Gary Bollan added: "The decision was taken there and then. Come kick-off time I think it would have been playable. If it was Berwick Rangers the game would have gone ahead tonight in my opinion."
"We were confident that the pitch was good," Ewing told BBC Scotland. "Some of the Rangers staff arrived and the next thing there were discussions with the SFA and they wanted to send the referee along. It's their game and we've got to abide by that. It was a local referee that was called out and in our view it was only a precaution."
So which Rangers players were missing through injury tonight?

I had seen on the BBC website that the chairman wanted helpers at 11:00 this morning for taking off the covers.
Thought at the time it was a bit early, 3-4 in the afternoon should have protected the pitch?
Still, Gerrard gets his Scottish Cup debut under flood lights at Central Park, Defoe and co. won't know what hit them!!!!!

Cowdenbeath Chairman must have been worried about injuries and although he is not averse to being up to his knees in blood, it has to be a particular type.
Errr no it was a local ref who called it off. Mainly cos sevco questioned the pitch

I don’t know where you are but it’s absolutely freezing in Fife.

I’m reluctant to be too harsh on clubs like Cowdenbeath. They would probably be in a more luxurious home if more locals went to see them regularly instead of that team they were supposed to be playing tonight.

    Dreadful ground though.
I'm pretty sure it's inconveinced a lot of the locals - the hun element.

I'm all for a conspiracy theory but is it really in Sevco's interests to squeeze this game into a midweek in a few weeks' time rather than play it tonight?

Cowdenbeath are guff and there is little chance of an upset. I could only imagine they'd want to get this one out of the way and move onto the next game.

The penalty spot was frozen so had to be called off.
Stick a stock-car with the engine running on the icy bits for 5 mins. Will soon melt.

Sorry Billy, I have heard of the Blue Brazil but not heard of the second team, are they due to play Sevco?
Never let them forget the old team died, they is no more, now consigned to history where with any luck the new huns will also follow.

You joke, but they did actually try driving a car over the pitch to let the exhaust get to the frozen bit of the pitch...(see BBC Sportscotland website).

Utterly predictable that after 2 weeks of completely benign weather, the first week back would see weather based cancellations.

The winter break is a total nonsense.

Correct. Cowdenbeath wanted the game played and thought the pitch was playable. The Rangers turn up and a ref is called in to inspect the pitch. Cowden official has no idea who called for a pitch inspection. Maybe Lee Wallace.

According to Donald Findlay it was the Rangers kit man

Couldn't the fans have just got together and organised a bit of an orange March on the pitch regardless?
