    Favourite Hibs Transfer Rumour

Was thinking about the various rumours that fly about in the transfer windows. There’s been some crackers over the years. My favourite one was when we weee linked with Joel Cantona and the headline on the back of the paper was “Hibs Go For Kid Cantona”

The David Platt one is up there too. Not sure how close we were to singing him.

Fairly sure this was transfer fact rather than rumour?
I thought we'd agreed a deal to sign him then were outbid at the last minute by something like £40 grand??

Yeah! We ended up using what we had left saved up in the biscuit tin to buy Gareth Evans from Rotherham United at the last minute

Alan Smith was often seen as a potential signing.
What was the Gigi Lentini rumour? I LOVED that early/mid-nineties AC Milan side...

Tommy Burns as manager (I'd have liked that a lot).
    Gordon Strachan as manager.

I seemed to remember Peter Heatherston was always supposed to be coming from Raith to us and had been some part of a deal when we sent out Danny Lennon to them. PH ended up at Aberdeen instead I think.

Was Tommy Johnson of Aston Villa and Celtic not meant to have been a done deal?

John Toshak was going to get £3,000 a game and transport by helicopter to the frozen north.
Probably not entirely spurious since our next move was to acquire George Best.

Does the Hibs Transfer News guy on Twitter get paid every time he links us with someone? Haha he’s claimed we’re in for about 15 players in the past week alone!

Petrie travelling standard class all the way to Wolverhampton to bring Leigh home but refusing to improve on his final offer of £149,999.99p just because he'd brought that exact amount in coins with him in dozens of large collection bottles.

I’m not one to blow my own trumpet but I put a lot of work into that one - phoned talk107 and everything. Had a bit of help from a mate who sent texts in etc.

Highlight was my father in law phoning to tell me it was happening after reading it in the paper and his mate (who had a good source) telling him.

    It was fabulous work.

The Jambos were going mental, iirc.

I'm fairly certain that I was in on that, but I can't remember how. Maybe via Mikey? Or possibly my memory is playing tricks on me.

A small group from the PM board were in on it and Matty F was the texter to the radio shows and that.

I think cos Brellier lived in the same block of flats as Boozy they thought there was something in it.

Crespo was a great one, and the urban legend that was Didier Deschamps signing for Le God...
