I heard on the news that Lennon has offered to ‘council’ Griffiths about his mental health issues, as he apparently has done with other pro footballers. While I think that’s very commendable gesture, part of me says that there is no need to make this sort of thing public.

He was asked a question and gave an honest answer, nothing to see here.

    Press Interview

Press Guy looking for a story: "Would you be willing to give Leigh help if he asked for it?"

Lennon: "Yes, of course I'd help"

    Response on Social Media:

"Lennon oversteps the mark on what should be a private issue"

This is exactly the reason i don't listen to a word any football manager says now, whatever they say it will be twisted one way or another.

Maybe listen to the whole interview that Hibs have put up (and do every week) before making a judgement

Who’s making a judgement? Just saying that there are some things that, IMHO, should be kept low key and out of the public domain.

How should he have responded to the question asked of him?

He was asked the question. Should he have said "No."?

He could have just brushed it aside and declined to say anything? By all means phone Leigh up or whatever gesture is appropriate to their relationship, but I would probably prefer Lennon not to drawn into discussion about a Celtic player a few days before we play them.

Not overly bothered, but I felt some mild discomfort when viewing a bit of the interview on the BBC website.

Fair do’s. I just don’t see it as an issue in the slightest, he was asked a question about a guy he knows well who is struggling with issues he has some experience of and gave an honest answer.

    Your ‘commendable gesture’ line.

In his first answer he states that he does not know the reason behind LG’s absence from football.

I suppose my gripe is with the media muppets. They should not be discussing a guy’s serious health problems in the way they clearly have.

Why not? You made your feelings public? What sort of 'thing' shouldn't be made public? His support? His empathy? His decency?

The more these things are discussed in public the better. Remove the taboo. I know people who may very well be alive today if they could only have asked for help and talked about things in public.

    Fair enough. Point taken.
