It’s not inconceivable he could end up being at the top of the appearances list by the time he retires, he’s already near the top 10.

Delighted with that. If he sees out that contract he’ll have been involved in 16 seasons with the first team

    Was just thinking that.

Who currently tops the list with the highest number of appearances?

Should probably know that but I’m guessing Joe Baker or Lawrie Reilly?

Gordon Smith with 636. He’d need to play nearly every game until he’s 34/35 to reach that. He’s 12 games away from knocking Erich Schaedler out the top 10 and by the end of next season he could be in the top 5.

off the top of my head Arthur Duncan.

Don't think Joe Baker played that many.

Really, I’m surprised at that as he played for Dundee and Hearts as well didn’t he? (If I’m wrong and he never played for Hearts I’ll need to hang my head in shame)

I would have thought Stanton as well but again his time at Celtic I would have thought may have pushed him down the list.

Would Gordon Rae be up there too or am I imagining that?

Anywhere I can see the top 10?

Just edited my post to include the list 👍🏼 Although I’m not sure how reliable it is. Gordon Smith apparently made 300 odd league appearances but 600 overall...

He'll certainly come close but he needs over 200 more appearances to be at the top. With him being 31 in January, he might be pushing it a bit.

    Still delighted with this news.

It is amazing to think that Lewis is the most successful Hibs player as a Hibs player in winning honours in the last 60 years. 2 major and one minor and hopefully more to come.

Absolutely brilliant news. One of the most underrated and under appreciated players in the country.

Check out this website. The Hibs info is very good.

Lewis has had a fantastic career at Hibs and I think he’s had the best years these past few seasons. He’s the epitome of hard work, skill and dedication.

I’ve never met the man, but by all accounts he is a thoroughly decent guy. I’m delighted that he has signed up again, no one deserves it more than Lewis.

Hope he sees out his football career at Hibs and continues on in a coaching role. He is playing consistently at a high level and clearly looks after himself. If Strachan etc can play a high energy game well into their 30s then no reason Lewis can't. Some good news after a poor week last week.

Superb news, so rare to get a 1 club player and his attitude and professionalism epitomises what we want from a club legend, very happy with this. Also good to see the club getting signings like this and some youngsters done nice and early instead of late on in their contracts.

  27. #26
Assuming he plays the majority of the games for the next couple of seasons, this will surely put him up there maybe top 5 appearances for the club! What a legend, fully deserved of his contact.

I think what also is forgotten is how many managers have given him new deals... I doubt he has ever had more than a 2-year deal (maybe his first?!?)

I’ve been a critic of Lewis in years gone by. He’s always been a solid reliable player but in terms of adding to his game in the way of an attacking threat, I always thought we could have brought in a more forward thinking type to give him competition. I’m not saying I ever wanted shot of him, far from the case. I’ve always appreciated the job he does and as he’s matured I’m happy to admit he’s only got better and he’s even added to that part of his game that I thought was lacking. He does seem to be an ever present though and hasn’t had much in the the way of competition for a place over all those years, we’ll thats the way it seems anyway. Very happy he’s signed an extension, absolute legend and such a nice guy.
