Been to Celtic Park before but never gone out drinking hard liquour before a match there. That may change on Saturday though, and wondering where to / where not to go near the ground. Thanks in advance.

We went to the Louden before the game in January. Very welcoming considering the reputation. As we were playing no one seemed to mind us.

The Real McCoy on London Road is ok.
It will be busy and it's sometimes home fans only but if you keep yourself to yourself it's unlikely you'll have any bother (beyond the patronising 'we dinnae mind youse by the way big man bud' stuff).PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. Probably robbed in other years

Springfield vaults is ok if you dont mind drinking in a total dump. We queued to get in last time, they don't mind Hibs fans coming in. It will be rammed though.

Visited one or two of the bars opposite the Barras before a gig last year. A bit surreal to find pubs flying the tricolor on their roofs in the east end of Glasgow!

McKinnon's under the rail bridge at the start of the Gallowgate is a good wee pub. It'll be busy so get in early, say about 8am when it opens! You'll have to have "breakfast" at that hour. A sausage sandwich will suffice.

Some interesting pubs around the Baras, if you dont mind plastic glasses, everything bolted down and rebels songs pounding out the speakers. Not had any bother tho.

When I worked for a while in the Saltmarket I occasionally drank in the Tolbooth, which is the last pub before the Saltmarket meets the Gallowgate (at the Tolbooth, basically 😁). Good old traditional pub, definitely a Celtic bar but not overtly so in terms of decour. Nice pint of Guinness at a price you'll not find in Edinburgh.
Disclaimer: not been there for 4 years, so just assuming it hasn't changed!Last edited by SideBurns; 16-10-2018 at 09:55 AM.

Saint Lukes and the Winged Ox, just past the Barrowlands is quite nice. It seems to be free from many of the other pitfalls associated with bars east of High Street in that it's not a "Celtc Pub".
You won't get the rebel ***** blasting out the speakers, there's no national flags in sight and no provo memorabilia behind the bar.
Otherwise, it's a struggle to find somewhere civil. I tend to avoid drinking too far east, or too far west of the city centre these days. Far too many rat pits on both sides!

For a long time in Glasgow there have been murmurings that the East End's stretch of Duke Street would rise to rival Byres Road in the West End - we're still probably some way away from that but worth a look nonetheless. Celino's on Alexandra Parade, about another 5-10 minute walk north, is also a decent pre-match scran shout.

The West Brewery is just off London Road and is really good. No idea what it's like for a pre-match pint or if the football crowd is even allowed in though.

Better staying in one of the many decent bars in the centre then getting a taxi, unless you like listening to Rebel garbage blaring in ahitehole boozers

There's a shop come office along there that claims to be involved in standing up for the oppressed Irish in Scotland (dunno what century they think it is) but is basically just a propaganda centre for the uglier elements of Irish Republicanism.
When some mates from Austria went to watch Rapid at Celtc Park a few years back, they commented not only on how hideous the area was, but what a backward looking, 'ugly'* people they encountered.
* Not ugly in looks, but in their attitudes, prejudices and beliefs.

Each to their own, I suppose, but I think it's time they moved on and dropped their overt hatred and Shoulder Chips.

Maggie May's isn't too far away from Barras if you're in that sort of vacinity, decent pub with good beer and good music.

Last time we went to a few pubs beforehand and my mate met up with some colleagues from Sheffield who were up for the day out and to go to the game. There were rebel songs playing in the pub, but none of the English visitors had any idea what was being played and it didn’t have any negative impact on their day out and first visit to Celtic Park. In one ear and out the other like most background music. I think we Scots get more angry and upset over the playing of certain musical choices than is really merited.
