I'm pretty sure this was recalled on here not so long ago but I can't find the thread. With Scotland playing in Israel this week I was just wondering if anyone recalls Hibs flying out there for a friendly in the early 80s (I think).

Surely our club should be boycotting games in Israel?

I’ve had a text from a mate who’s out there for the game he was pulled off a bus and questioned about his movements and asked for his visa and passport. He was the only muslin on the bus. Time the world stood up the apartheid regime in Israel

Em, leaving the politics aside I've managed to answer my own question via John Campbell's book 'In Colours Green and White'. The trip actually took place in 1979 when Eddie Turbull was still boss:
"With the domestic card wiped out by heavy snow and severe frosts during the latter part of December and most of January, Hibs looked further afield than the UK to fix up a game that would offer much-needed match practice. A four-day trip to Israel was organised and the players jetted out for a spell in the sun and a game against a Tel Aviv XI. The only goal of the game came when a Duncan Lambie shot came back off the post and Isak Refvik popped up to net from close range."
I vaguely remember this game taking place (though I had thought it was during the Bertie Auld era) so it's good to find my memory's not deceiving me. Did anyone on here actually go to the match??

Nobody should be playing them 🇮🇱. Their apartheid policies have deemed some humans as inferior 🇵🇸. A disgusting government with a disgusting set of values. Really sad that the UK 🇬🇧 continually supports them. 😞

Was this not the time that we identified the talent that was Ronny Rosenthal?
Once again we dithered and missed out.
Apparently according to the archive thread “class players that we missed out on” he even played in a closed doors trial versus Der Hun for us even scored a goal but we let him slip through our fingers
A lot of interesting posts on that thread Colin Calderwood deciding GMS was not HIBS class?
