Remember it well. Archie was a class act. Like many did not realise how good until he actually played for us.

Always seemed to have more time on the ball than anyone else due to his ability to bring the ball under control immediately be it head chest thigh or foot great positional awareness expert at shielding the ball and conscious and always aware of what was going on around him at all times.

I remember the Scotland Manager Jock Stein rated him very highly indeed I would rate him as world class due to his exploits at Spurs and Barca we were very fortunate to steal him from under the noses of Liverpool

Who can forget his winning goal at Tinycastle when played through on Henry Smith at the Gorgie Road end by a Paul Kane overhead kick?

    Legend!

I think this was the day we publicised the share flotation. Remarkable days just around the corner.

Alan Rough was in goals for Celtc. He kept the score down.

Maybe but at the game I thought he should have done better with a couple of shots. Thought he went down in instalments.

I've got the highlights of this on an old VHS tape somewhere. Cracking first half with Archibald sensational. He just had so much more vision than anyone else and seemed to create time and space to do pretty much what he wanted.

3-0 at HT . The East sang happy birthday to Celtic. Taking the pee about it being their centenary year 😂

When will the next time Hibs will be able to sign someone from Barcelona!
    Great player 👍

Any idea what sort of wages we would have paid to get him?

I realise that I’m getting old, but my biggest memory of the game (3-1 v. Celtic) was the howling gale blowing down the slope. Our footballers coped better than Celtic.

There was some story about him wanting comp tickets for family in one of those boxes we used to have lying empty in the West lower.

David Gray (the tasched one) wouldn’t let him have them so he just produced a wad of notes from his pocket and paid cash for them there and then.

Hibs were tightarses back then. We wouldn’t have to wait long to find out why.

I wasn’t born then. How on earth did we manage to sign him ahead of Liverpool? Especially with Liverpool being very dominant back then.

Strange but true. Archibald was out the picture at Barcelona with the arrival of Hughes and Linekar two foreigners rule. HIBS could offer Archie European football something Liverpool couldn’t after the Heysel ban plus all Duff and Grays supposed millions it was a no brainer to Archie

Archibald was one of the finest and most elegant players to play for Hibs. A truly wonderful player. I remember that game vividly, I was in the old north stand - hard to believe it was thirty years ago. It is a pity that there is not highlights available.

I took my Father to that game he wasn't really a football fan but he really enjoyed the game. I remember Eddie May playing a stormer of a game! Celtic couldn't cope with him that day.

Celtic were reigning champions that season, and that was their 5th defeat in their opening eight games - given that it was two points for a win back then, they had only six points from eight games. And we think they've started this season badly!
