Fifa to reduce number of loan players

Just saw something on Sky sports, where they were saying FIFA are trying to introduce a system where clubs can only loan up to 8 players out
Teams like Chelsea etc gather lots of players and loan them out at a profit. Believe they have 40 or so players out on loan at the moment
They also buy them to stop their competitors getting them

Think this is a great thing. Will lead also to a lot of players being up for transfer, as they won’t be able to keep them happy

Not sure if this applies to any players brought through their academy? Or if it's only players who have been bought from other clubs. Sounds like a sensible approach

It will surely also increase the availability of good players to be owned though, as it will be less desirable for big clubs to stockpile players and send them all out on loan?

At our level we may find it increases the chances of clubs using their own young players rather than relying on the loan market.

The player, however, does extremely well.

Club C comes in for the player with a £1m bid.

Except that nobody can force a player to move to a club he doesn’t want to go to, so the original club could/probably would lose a few players.

Loan players have become a standard part of the football equation these days....when I was lad working At mill, there was no such thing as loan players....

Needs to be thought through properly though. If it's something like "players who joined their parent club academy system/before the age of 18 are exempt" or whatever, then clubs like Chelsea will just start the process younger and snaffle up top talent at an even younger age to keep their "loan farm" pool as big as it is now.

I think it's now common for "big" clubs to insert first refusal clauses in deals when selling young players.

There's been a few deals recently where Club A activates the first refusal clause in order to sell to Club C for a profit.
