Socialist Bookshop attacked by fascists wearing Donald Trump masks.

    https://www.google.de/amp/s/m.huffingtonpost.co.uk/amp/entry/bookmarks-socialist-bookshop-attacked_uk_5b670509e4b0b15abaa4341b/

I could have added this to a number of threads in the holy ground but feel it deserves a thread of its own. The far right are feeling more empowered everyday. Brexit, Donald Trump, Tommy Robinson, paedophile hunting groups and the rebirth of fascism in Europe. Where does it end?

Can't get the link to work on my phone so copy and paste if interested.

Natural reaction after years of "you're a racist" as a standard response to anyone who dared question open border immigration and the effect it has had culturally and economically on the working class of the UK.

What is the British working class; how was it effected culturally and economically by open border immigration?

A before and after type answer would be helpful.

    Troll.
But I'll bite. You believe attacking a bookstore is a natural reaction? I suspect you haven't got the deepest understanding of history...

I thought the far-right was all about free speech? Damaging books is the last thing they'd do, surely?

That's ironic given that you are, clearly, a racist.

Where is the outrage when Donald's Holywood star is vandalised In a similar manner?

Whataboutery that would be perfectly at home on Rangers Media or Kerrydale Street.

(FWIW, as much as I dislike Trump and everything he stands for, I don't think that vandalising a Hollywood star is acceptable behaviour).

    Let's evaluate:

Destruction of a book store = destruction of stock, damage to infrastructure, loss of business earnings, cost of repairs and a degree of trauma for the victims (both owners and customers).

Destruction of a "Hollywood Star" = small loss to the company charged with overseeing the Walk of Fame as they pay a contractor to replace it within a few hours. I doubt Trump gives a ****.

There's nothing "similar" about it at all.

Was typing the same thing but beaten to it. Anyone find it odd that we clearly have fans with far right views and we are a club which was actually formed by immigrants?

To be honest my post was tongue in cheek.

This is the new norm now and you could argue that the violence of far left groups such as ANTIFA goes unreported and largely ignored by the BBC and the media then it gives the green light for these kind of attacks in a kind of tit for tat exchange.

It's terrible that the book shop was attacked I agree. I think acts like this will only get worse before things get better.

War is on the horizon make no bones about it by but it will be driven by finance and resetting the economy and population control rather than any moves from the far right or far left which I believe along with immigration is useful smoke screen to what is coming.

That was 143 years and 1 day ago, we live in a society now where Hibs fans come from a variety of backgrounds and hold a variety of political views. I don't think there is/should be a problem with that.

Although reading the Holy Ground does tend to show that we still have a generally left leaning support - which is probably true of most football clubs.
    Mon the Hibs.

There's not a problem with people having a range of political views, far from it. What I'm talking about is people with views which are quite virulent on the topic of immigration and the irony given the club's history. The kind of views which, when held 143 years ago, actively sought to stop the club playing at all.

Personally I love the fact that we can have people with diverse views following our club.

The choices you make at the ballot box, whether you want to fight for your country, who you think that country should be in Union with and why should have no bearing on your appreciation of Gordon Smith, Pat Stanton or John McGinn.

We're a broad church and better for it.

And hibs.net is richer for the fact that we have folk with wide-ranging opinions (even the ones that I really don't agree with) who are willing to put forward their opinions - within certain boundaries of course.

I agree with every single aspect of that.

But I draw the line at some of the downright vile bigotry and hatred that gets spewed by the 3 usual suspects with pretty reasonable predictability.

Thought this piece explained quite well how low-level violence has become routine now, fuelled by social media:

We've been here before. Politics being divided into multiple little fractions that can't agree or compromise on anything leading to a nation screaming out for a leader that can unite the masses and bring order to the chaos. Extreme polarisation of the differing factions that leads to political unrest and violence between the opposing sides causing a yearning for a strong leader from the A-political masses that can unite the nation. Guess what happened next?

The nation you mention turned to socialism and then they looked for someone to blame?

I assumed he was meaning national socialist Germany.

So did Germany “turn to socialism” when Friedrich Ebert was elected president? :confused

You tell me I answered a question he asked. I could be wrong.

Suppose the point in making is true socialism always leads to the death of millions. Germany were socialist under Hitler, Russia socialist under Stalin, China socialist under Mao.

To be honest I'm clearly no expert but history shows socialism is not the answer to any nations problems.

Think you’re confusing “socialism” with “authoritarianism”.

I thought Hitler had the socialist faction of the party murdered?
