    Fly from Dublin

There is a late flight out of Dublin at 23:15 arrives Athens 05:00 about £175

just have to get to Dublin and then back again.

Other options if you have Avios or Airmiles still seats available on BA out London (business class) 50,000 plus £50

On approach to Kalamata now. Looks like a rather convoluted approach path due to the local mountainous terrain - effectively going round in circles just north of the airfield to lose altitude. It isn't a holding pattern - this airport isn't busy enough to need one!

Crossing over Montenegro just now. Flo will be able to give a wave to his extended Kosovan-Albanian family in about ten minutes!
By the looks of the radar, they've over shot the airport..!

I thought that too although they were still at about 8,000 feet when they crossed the most northern section of the airfield! Presumably it's a convoluted descent due to the mountains due east of the airport.

No they haven't landed yet: looks like it's lining up for a straight in approach onto runway 17R.

Definitely not all games were cancelled that week mate. Loads went ahead. I was miffed our game in Athens was cancelled though. Lost out on a lot of money.
The Tuesday games (the day of the WTC attack) had been played by the time the decision was made, but all the games on the Wednesday and Thursday were postponed.

    I'm 100% sure of that.

The games on Thursday were cancelled but not the games on Wednesday as it was too short notice apparently. 9/11 happened on the Tuesday.

Looks a bit scary to me. I think they've had to try a second time as they have shot by and went around again! Ouch...

There's an easyjet flight tomorrow morning, Edinburgh to Berlin (Tegel) £142.27 arrives at 13.00 you would then need to taxi 65/70 Euros (40mins) to Berlin Schoenefeld for the flight to Athens 130.14 Euros leaving at 17.00, arriving 20.55 Wednesday night.

How you get home is up to you

Or you could use public transport in Berlin where the transfer time is about an hour and only costs €4.00.

I'm no expert, but looking at it on flight radar with the mountainous terrain surrounding the airfield that makes sense

Fair point, but I didn't have time to check out the buses.

I see Cello Aviation went bust this week. Am I right in thinking this was the company that was to provide the aircraft for the ill-fated Greece charter this summer?

Is this a different company from Cobalt who have suspended all operations as of last night?

Yes it is: not a good week for European aviation!
