It depends on what the punishment is. If it’s usually a 3-0 defeat then it is obviously as good as an expulsion in knockout tournaments but would only be a 3-0 defeat in a group tournament. If it’s expulsion then they would be out the competition even though there’s still group games to be played.

Its an automatic 3-0 to opposition, same as would happen if they did it in a league match. "Throwing out the cup" could only happen if this was in the KO stage rather than the Group stage because they would have lost the game as in the Spartans case. Only lost a group game but effectively means they'll fail to qualify if they drop another point and wont go through on best runner up criteria as disciplinary action ranks them lowest.
