    League Cup 2018

Kicks off today with Kilmarnock v St Mirren.

I know we're not in it yet, but seeded into the last 16 is a strong position to start at for our journey to hopefully return to Hampden/win another cup.

Anyone fancy any upsets this weekend?

Killie v St Mirren will be a great spectacle. But still feel like Kilmarnock will be too good for them.

Spartans could cause Dumbarton an upset 👍

All the best to stubbsy tonight in his first competitive match. See you at Hampden in November

    Is this on tele tonight?

Starting to panic i'm going to have to go a night with no football.

    Missus will be delighted

Really like the concept of the group stages. It’s far better for the paying fan than playing monotonous mind numbing friendlies. It also generates a wee bit excitement having to look out for other results

Even better when Hearts have to compete in a penalty shootout when they know they are out and have to go through the motions

Having said all that I prefer being in the Europa

Been the better team by far. Missed a few sitters to keep it at 0-0.

Brian Rice St Mirren’s Assistant Manager and Darren Jackson on the coaching staff.

Bloody distracting. Way too many all over the place. I've seen more on my screen tonight than in 2 weeks on the Costa del Sol. There were more parakeets than seagulls. Very odd, but a damn sight less annoying

St Mirren streets ahead of Kilmarnock. Struggling to turn it into goals though.

Already look like a stubbs team, they will be a good addition.

I agree looking at how they've played. I had thought with them losing their best players Stubbs might struggle with St Mirren. Watching them here they'll be a breath of fresh air. Young Cammy MacPherson in centre mid for St Mirren has been the stand out for me. Reminds me a bit of Alan Campbell at Motherwell.

The artificial pitch looks as though it's suffering from sunburn.

St. Mirren looked good last night, especially in the first half. Really pleased they won for Stubbs' sake.

As Stubbs will know a lot of our younger players, I wonder if they may take their McGinn cut in bodies rather than cash?

The lad they signed from Middlesbrough on loan looked terrific last night. Hayden Coulson.

Personally think if they bring in two good strikers, then top six looks reachable which will be a big achievement for them.

I think St Mirren will do really well this year. Comfortably mid table and will have a few wins against those above them. They came up from the Championship with more points than we did and their excellent run goes beyond last season to the second half of the one previous.

Stubbs has acknowledged that; said in interview after the game that he’s looking to bring a couple of front men in and hopefully at least one of those being what he referred to a ‘marquee signing’. Be interesting to keep a wee eye on their transfer movement.

A few shocks today, Montrose winning at Falkirk, Blue Brazil at Raith, and Arbroath getting a bonus point over Dundee United
Annan also beat Hamilton 1-0. So some of the “bigger” name teams, at this stage, including Killie, got a bit to do to qualify

Yip! Well spotted mentioned him in another thread looks a real prospect would be the ideal replacement for Lewis just how difficult Middlesbrough would be to deal with we could maybe throw in SJM to stop the smellies stealing him cash back of course.

With Stubbsy in charge I really hope St Mirren have a successful season (expect against us of course!).

A particular style of play haunts him and will continue to haunt him.

    Come on Spartans.
