Best music of 2018 so far?
Do you think your security can keep you in purity, you will not shake us off above or below. Scottish friction, Scottish fiction

Favourite album: Tranquility Base Casino and Hotel - Arctic Monkeys. Took a few listens and seeing them live in Barcelona but for me it's not only the best album of the year so far but also by some distance the best body of work they've ever released. Absolutely love it to bits.
Favourite song: Fake ID by Riton. Just a great fun pop song with a super catchy hook.
Best live act - Either Bjork at Primavera Sound in Barcelona or Idles at the same festival. Bjork for her weirdness, stage set up and totally uncompromising setlist that people seemed to love or walk away from after fifteen minutes, Idles for their off the scale energy, venom and the wildest crowd I've ever been in.

Album: American Utopia by David Byrne. It's had mixed reviews, but after a few listens it has really grown on me. Best played loud.
Single: The best of it by Whyte Horses ft. La Roux (Casino mix). I absolutely love it. The drums, the chorus and OMG, her voice.
Best live act: I didn't expect to be saying this, but undoubtedly it was The Stones. I've seen a good few gigs already this year and they out performed every one of them, and by a country mile.Last edited by Hibbyradge; 21-06-2018 at 05:11 PM.

Favourite Album: Ember, by Breaking Benjamin. They can do no wrong in my eyes, and just keep evolving.
Favourite song: On My Teeth by Underoath (shame the rest of their new album didn't quite work out to be as good IMO).
Best live act: I haven't actually been to many gigs this year so far - seen a few bands at Slam Dunk festival back in May, so probably Crown The Empire.

Album - Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino. Gets better all the time for me, hear more and more of Pet Sounds and the White Album in there.
Song - Loner Boogie or Face behind her cigarette by Boy Azooga. Really getting into their album “1,2 Kung Fu”.
Gig - think I’ve only been to one this year. Noel Gallagher in Amsterdam. Was just ok really, crowd really weren’t buying into his new material!

Album - Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, Arctic Monkeys. Very bold album compared to their last which for me was very commercial (but still decent).
Song - Leave It In My Dreams, The Voidz. Julian Casablancas 'other' band. Better than anything The Strokes have released since Angles.
Gig - Rolling Stones at Murrayfield, not much to be said really that hasn't been said but I was in awe.

I'm making a point of listening to everyone's favourite single, but you've listed 2 and now I can't choose.

It's a shame it's such a classic "rock"/indie-centric forum really.

Album - Microshift by Hookworms
Song - The Rover by Interpol, one of my all time fave bands who seemed to get gradually poorer each album until Elpintor and now this just reaffirms my love for them.
Gig - Only one this year so has to be Hookworms again, really was brilliant though.

Sort of stumbled on this album which I've been enjoying last couple of days 'A Laughing Deep Meatspace' by Tropical **** Storm Couldn't really describe its style but certainly worth a listen
