Got one manger sacked.
Going to get another one the sack.
The way they capitulate when something goes against us is horrible.
Talk of Newell and JDH being ‘top’ midfielders is surely put to bed?
Every single player went missing today and for all the criticism that Maloney (and Ross before him have had) they have been consistently terrible.

The Players

Maloney will be responsible for getting Maloney sacked.
He’s clearly asking players to do things they can’t do and he’s either too stubborn or too stupid to change it.

The constant handing out of contracts to players not deserving is a club problem
JDH
Newell
Campbell
Doidge
McGregor
Gray
Based on what form I don’t know

Newell is a quality player. We're in bad form but that doesn't make everyone hopeless.

Our squad is terrible.
Unless we’re getting a manager in that’s way above our level then the next man will have the same issues. 10-15 of this squad are bottom six standard at best. A good few of them are a lot worse than that.

It’s actually quicker to list what we’ve got to work with. A defence of Macey, Doig, Hanlon, Porteous & Clarke is a solid enough starting point. Everything in front of that needs a root and branch clear out to varying degrees.
Give Melkerson a partner, sign a functioning midfield as a priority and buy 2 wingbacks that can actually create if we want to play with wingbacks as our sole width.
Too many players are better on paper than reality. Doidge, Newell, Nisbet, JDH, Cadden.
Too many are either lightweight or only ever show the odd glimpse; Henderson, Jasper, Mueller.
Then there’s those that are not doing much more than blocking the pathway of a talented U18 team: Scott, Wright, Campbell & Allan.
Maloney is making a poor fist of the job so far and will do well to survive until the summer. However he inherited a bad hand from Ross. What we’re seeing is the reality of a Martin Boyle-less Hibs.
I think it’s telling that our best player and someone we’re all pining for is a guy who has had a string of single digit games at the start of this season where he was good from the 2 years he’s been here.

Don’t think he’s got a win.
A ‘quality’ player that does a lot without doing anything.

He wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter for Hearts, that’s for sure.

Hes far and away our best midfielder and one of the few that shows any composure
We have defintely beaten hearts since Newell joined - tynecastle 2019 for sure
I'm not sure either way how that proves he wouldn't even get in the hearts squad,. Which imo is pretty ludicrous

I agree he’s our best midfielder, which is kind of the point of the thread. Totally disappeared today when something went against us.

They dominated so player x must be pish
We need to find a better balance in midfield but Newell is a piece of the jigsaw I wouldn't be changing

It’s not about x being pish. We’ve struggled in that area of the pitch all season.
Wasn’t intended a a Newell bashing thread but I just don’t see this quality player that others do.
Manager(s) get a lot of criticism but it’s two terrible league seasons out of three since Ron came in, despite all the chat from him. Saying the same things today as we were just over two years ago, against the same opponents.

Newell certainly isn't a bad player
On Ron - Historically he isn't doing as bad as seems really

All these quality players in a terrible team.
Also not scapegoating anyone. There wasn’t a Hibs player on that pitch who would get in to that Hearts team yesterday and they capitulate at the first sign of trouble.Last edited by B.H.F.C; 10-04-2022 at 06:04 AM.

You see the positives in Hibs which is great, but surely you have to acknowledge we need better than Newell?

There is and always has been a softness in our club when the going gets tough.

Newell is a good player, I can be a critic of him but with the right players around him he will be just fine. The issue is he is playing alongside Dylan McGeouch if you order him from Wish and A N Other every week. He'd almost be as well playing alone.
What I found baffling yesterday was for 15 minutes we were in Hearts faces, pressing the ball and they did not like it one bit. Their players were nervy on the ball and the fans were starting to turn. And of course that had us 1 up. Then we started sitting off them, they started finding time on the ball and they cut us open with relative ease on 5 or 6 ocassions. I'm not sure if it was under instruction or a natural reaction to defending a lead but the complete lack of energy, particularly after they equalised, was frightening.PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. He is not doing as badly as you would think based on our actual historic league finishes
Obviously we want better (when have we not) but we are currntly being hibs of the last 2 decades

Anyway, there’s other threads about Ron, Ben and so on.
The main point I was trying to make with this one is that for all the stick aimed elsewhere, a lot of our players just aren’t very good.
