My friend says about a 2hr-3hr drive from Athens. Used to be a "hard drive" but it's now on newly built road so alot less stressful. Not sure about a train but suspect that you would have to go into Athens main station to head out again and that could take 4-5hrs all in.

I'd much rather be bursting my baws figuring out how to get to Burnley though. Great draw.
Rubbish draw for Europe IMO. That is a pre season friendly location.

And it's almost certain to be Aberdeen's only game. We may not be favourites in round two, but we've a better chance against the Greeks than Aberdeen do with Burnley.
Mature, sensible signature required for responsible position. Good prospects for the right candidate. Apply within.

Population less than Paisley, playing in England’s top division, can only survive at this level with Sky/BT money
Hope they get knocked out and Aberdeen progress

The money obviously helps them, but the likes of them an Bournemouth deserve a bit of credit for what they’ve done in that league IMO. They will be spending a hell of a lot less than a lot of the teams they are beating and seem to do things the right way.

Admittedly it would be good for the SPFL to get one over on the best league in the world.

It’s not really though. Same goes for loads of clubs down there - Bournemouth, Huddersfield etc.

SSN the other day were talking seriously about how a player was really looking forward to joining Huddersfield for many millions. He chose to leave Monaco due to the lure of Huddersfield.

Nothing to do with money - just the promised land of Huddersfield.

Same goes into the Championship - PNE signing Moult on £10k a week despite having the same turnover and lower average attendances than us, Aberdeen and Hearts who I’m sure would have all loved to sign him.

It’s just a knock on effect from the Premier League
Think the thread is going a bit off topic now though!

im being positive despite the names in the hat,
I was impressed with what lennon did with such little time, against brondby, who were fit, in mid season barring a GK error we could have went through, and that brondby side went on to do well in the group stages,
that was with an inherited squad Now he has had the time to build his own team, I am really looking forward to seeing how well he can get the lads to produce on the big stage,

put it this way,,,must be better than playing friendlies in a half bult stadium!

Brondby weren’t mid-season, the Danish Season runs July-May like ours. They also didn’t reach the Group Stages they were eliminated by Panathinaikos. Was still a good performance by us though.

my apologies , sure they got to the last knockout, I remember being impressed by them in the next matches, need to check who they played, but aye, for a squad you have just inherited, they played well, could have been a few playinf for a contract granted, when the new manager comes in

  17. #556
They knocked out a good Hertha berlin, 3-1 win at home, where we won.

but they fell foul,, in all places....greece.beat 3-0 panathanaikos, drew 1-1 at home,

that was a tough run to the groups as always, but we deserved to play berlin, just as much as brondby
over 2 legs, we shut them out for long periods,

You’ve got to look at it case by case. Yes Burnley itself is relatively small but they draw support from all of the smaller towns and villages around them, even in to North Yorkshire, and it’s one of the few places in England if not the entire UK where the local club shirts vastly outnumber Man Itd, Liverpool and the like. And I say that as someone who’s been singing “Chim chiminey, chim chiminey, chim chim cher-oo” for the last 20 odd years.

I think it’s mad that so many fans are so confident to make Athens travel arrangements as though were already through it’s as if they’ve not seen Scottish teams recent record in early Europa qualifying rounds its dire and it’s preseason stage for hibs and with a depleted squad from the end of the season. This thread will be straight on kickback should we fail to go through

Most have booked free cancellation, only a small few have bought flights. Not "so many" really.

Greece accommodation booked and flights today. Couldn't make Faroe Islands even if I wanted to, so just got to hope we get through. If we don't then it's a few days away in the sun anyway!

Average attendance higher than ours most years before they ever reached the Premier League. 12,500 average attendance in the English 3rd tier. Not bad for a club from a town less than a quarter of the size of Edinburgh.

Mental booking Greece just now. Show a bit respect to the Faroe boys FFS! Scottish clubs, including us, HAVE slipped up in the past against 'minnows'!
Just bet the faroes team, they’ll probably be upwards of 10/1 I reckon

Does anyone know when the club will announce when the two second ties will be if we progress? As in a concrete home and away?

    Silly Billy.
Champions of England a good bit more recently than we've managed to be champions of Scotland.
Capacity a shade bigger than ours too.

Everywhere in Tripolis appears to be fully booked on the the day of the match, so for others it may require staying in Athens and travelling on match day.
