15th above Ayr, Clyde and St Mirren. Celtic two places above. Der Hun on top followed by Killie the Third Lanark. Gorgie Gallacticos mid table. Fast forward to May and the merricks won the league. We were 7th. Arbroath and Stirling Albion relegated.

2nd to rangers on 1st of May 1975. We’ve never finished higher than third since. It was the final season of the old two league system. Eight teams were relegated that season.

3rd, behind Celtic and Rangers in March 1970. Celtic out in front on 48 points with Rangers on 41 and ourselves on 36. Two points for a win, so goes to show how good that Celtic team was at the time.

N’erday 1959 and we were lying 9th, just above Celtic on goal average.

A disappointing 7th on 28th October 1977.
I was interested to see though that we were still ahead of Celtic, who had won their 9th league title in a row the previous season and must have had a stinking start to the season.
For those of you that were around then - what happened to Celtic that season? How did they go from being so good to so poor? Was it a particularly strong Rangers team that won the league?

Born in the summer of 1951 before the first game of 51-52 season so Hibs were champions. Hibs retained the championship 51-52 season and I missed every match.

In your case, the website points out that Hearts were actually second at the end of January, but, yes, by season end, Rangers had displaced them.

PS Also found my first-ever match, against Clyde on January 23rd 1960, when I was 6. Joe Baker hat-trick, 5-5 draw, and 2 of the famous five still in the team.Last edited by HiBremian; 20-04-2018 at 09:48 AM.

If they had goal difference instead of goal average at that time, they would have won it the season after that as well.

[QUOTE=Aim Here;5375180]Heh, that's no doubt some good mental exercise, but everyone else was just going to the website that the OP linked to, and typing in the date they were born!]
I know the website right enough (in ma favourites) doh!
So yes,top of the league the day i was born.
Its always fun and informative searching Hibernian history.
Post war to '53 must have been magical days for Hibernian fans.
The Ludging hooses in the West Port ,Grassmarket and " The Coogit" will have been bouncing.Last edited by Mick O'Rourke; 20-04-2018 at 09:56 AM.

We were 15th - Celtic were 11th, Rangers 4th, Raith Rovers 3rd - Hearts on top ... seems a long time ago .... 18 in the league, 11 games played at the time - think we improved once I was here

Apparently Hibs were 7th the day I was born, just behind Hearts. They finished 6th, just above Hearts.
Average attendance at ER that season was 12,000. Highest 38,000 against Rangers and lowest was 3,800 against Clyde.
Nowadays the highest and lowest attendances only vary by about 5,000. Wierd!

I didn't realise Hibs played on the day I was born. 3-3 draw away at St Mirren to consolidate 3rd in the league. 10 pts behind Celtc, 5 behind the original Huns and 4 ahead of our cuddly neighbours.
We finished the season 3rd as well, closing to just a point behind the foul Hunnish horde.

Born just after the end of the 64/65 season when Kilmarnock won the league by goal average from a certain team in the west of the city. Hibs were fourth just 4 points behind, with Dunfermline in third a point off the top two.
Incredibly the Old Firm were fifth and eighth - has there ever been a season where the ugly sisters finished so low?
