I'm not sure that you're grasping the finer details of how goals are credited to a football player.
Any details, never mind the finer ones

Not really fighting for the golden boot as that’s done and dusted. But he scored the goal and was correct to appeal. A striker who isn’t goal hungry is of little use to anybody.
He was 4 behind Lukaku with 3 games left last year and scored 8 in his last 3 games.

If he didn't touch (which he may not have) it would still have gone in.
    Makes no difference

Some of those goals were just a 'fine' touch though so shouldn't really count.

Is it an own goal if it scrapes the keepers fingertips?

See Harry Kane won his appeal to get the goal against Stoke credited to him. Seems a bit desperate to me.
    Not at all terrific player.

I wouldn't worry mate, there is no consistency in the awarding of goals which was clearly evident by the initial award and then successful appeal. It's not as clear cut as folk are trying to make out on here.

I find it hard to think of Harry Kane without hearing Bob Mortimers take on him from Athletico Mince. For those of you who dont listen to the podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPo64EBxHxY

It's an accepted part of trying to score that a keeper may try to stop the ball going in. In fact, the same applies to a defender.

The only time they will be credited with an own goal is when their action is judged to have caused the goal e.g. by deflecting it past the keeper's keft when is already diving to his right.

Any intervention by an attacking player as the ball goes towards goal and they are credited with the last touch.

Exactly the same applies when it comes to corners v goal kicks and throw ins. The lightest touch and it's the opponents' ball.

If it was a hibs player who was fighting for the golden boot we would be pleased with a decision in favour of the player. Good on Kane who is a world class striker

That's far too sensible for the jokers on here.

Enjoyed that clip - especially the David Seaman bit. It’s been recommended to me before and pished myself at the peter Beardsley telling jokes clip.

I’m planning on downloading a good few for when I go on holiday.

Meanwhile Mo Salah says claim all the dodgy goals you like Kane, I'll just keep banging them in.

Would paragraph 2 be an own goal? My interpretation was that it was only an own goal if it wasn't "on target" prior to the defenders touch.
    Mon the Hibs.
