    Hampden Park Sale

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43604938

So Hampden saved as the home of Scottish football. But would still like to see appropriate use of Murrayfield eg non-Weegie teams in Cup semis.

Do you really need a stadium the size of Murrayfield for non-OF semis?

Don't agree with this TBH. I have always been a firm believer that the Capital should always host major sporting finals etc.

Yup. Doesn't feel right having them in provincial cities like Glasgow

So are they going to rebuild it as a decent stadium to watch football in?

Don't necessatiöy agree with the first sentence but for sure the home of Scottish football is, and should remain, Hampden.

Hope so. Two tier all way round and close to the pitch. 60/70k is all they need.

Any Hibs or Hearts semi v. non-OF opposition would potentially attract more to M'field than Hampden. NO other stadium big enough. H v H semi at M'field would potentially sell out 67,000. The extra sales would cover any hire costs.

So the SFA said sell us the ground or we are moving? We have true humanitarians running the game...

Whatever they decide to do it's going to take a ton of money to refurbish to a proper standard. Now where is that cash coming from, we didn't have enough to hire our first choice as Scotland manager.

Good Point. It really needs some major re-development work to make it truly fit for purpose. If a tiny minority sport like Rugby can build a Murrayfield then surely our national game can do something similar.

That would be a start. Farcical stadium.

A terrible waste of money. There’s no need for a national association to own a stadium .

Redeveloping M'field put the SRU £26m in debt and that was over 20 years ago. Only in the last few years got the debt down to more manageable level.

Anyone else notice the random Fergie news stories relating to this? A wee sweetener, that SOL is the best fans song ever blah blah blah, McTominay is the new David Beckham.. Oh, and lets keep Hampden as our national stadium!! West coast, and west coast media bias.. Stick it up yer a**e

To the contrary I quite enjoy a day out to hampden whenever we reach a semi-final/final. Think it would lose a bit of its novelty if I was only making a trip up to murrayfield. Getting the train/bus through adds to it for me.

Once the SFA own Hampden there is no chance of Easter Road or anywhere else getting future Scotland games or semi finals. Massive amounts of money will now be spent refurbishing Hampden which could have been spent elsewhere in the game.
SFA at their best once again.

It wasn’t random. These things are co-ordinated. That what the SFA media relations people are for.

For me it’s the right decision, if SFA get to own Hampden, and are able to put some plans in place to “square” the stadium at some stage in the future. If we could bring in both ends, could be a really atmospheric stadium
SFA have got Gary O’Hagen working for them, was instrumental in the rebuilding of Easter Rd, and on budget

How could a cup final in Edinburgh with all its bars and beautiful city not make it enjoyable??

Hopefully the SFA buy Hampden then sell to the highest bidders and move. ****hole of a stadium and ****hole of a city

Its about time. Queen's Park IMO have not been good for Hampden and before anybody goes on about their right to own it, having the right to own it and having the capability to run it as it should be are two entirely different things.

If this gets over the line then it will be up to the SFA to prove they can do better, but surely they couldn't do any worse. Queen's Park missed an absolute open goal by failing to squeeze far more out of the Commonwealth games than they did ... they had the CG organisers by the balls and yet secured the square root of sod all for stadium redevelopment from an overall games budget of nearly 500 million quid ... if that's not failure I don't know what is.

The SFA need to get the finger out the second this deal is signed and that starts with shaming the Scottish and UK governments into backing redevelopment of the stadium and lets not go down the 'there's no money for stuff like that' route..... There was nearly half a billion quid found for the Commonwealth games and eye watering sums found for the Olympics, with even more public money added on top to make the London stadium fit for super rich West Ham ..... Others may have forgotten, but I haven't, that a few years ago 3 million quid of UK tax payer's money was given to the Chinese by the government ( the Chinese FFS ) to promote coaching and I quote "the English premier league" in that country.

In fact, we could do worse than ask the Chinese to fund redevelopment of Hampden, making it clear that we have reached out to them because our own government wont help ... who knows, the Chinese authorities might even come to the conclusion that the amount of embarrassment that would cause the UK government might be worth the cost

There was a good thread on P&B about Hampden and Queens Park and just how amateurish and naive Queens Park were with the whole thing. I don't think they had any choice but to sell it to the SFA. Something about the grant and funding which they got to redevelop states the facility has to be open and in use for X amount of use and the debentures they sold were also valid for X amount of years, if they bulldozed it they'd have to pay them back. Don't know how accurate it was but interesting thread.

Regarding the other posters about Glasgow being a ****hole. Man up, great city with barry people, great day out also
