    Pools Panel

Given the number of games postponed this weekend, does anyone know if the Pools Panel comes into effect still?

Also, and probably for the older .Net users, back in the day when the Pools was one of your passages to mega riches, did you ever feel contented when the Panel awarded a “Win” to Hibs if our game was postponed?

Or felt a complete injustice if they said we “Lost”?

    Or was it just me?

I remember Rangers being "awarded" a no-score draw, and someone asking "who missed their penalty?"

We have a kinda pools panel here every week. Our refs decide who is going to win, lose or draw.

I always remember an old guy coming round to my Grandads door to collect the pools money on a Thursday.

When I was growing up , my mates mum won £45,371 on the pools. The pools guy went to her door to tell her.
It must have been around 1979.

I seem to recall the Pools Panel sat every week - just in case - so there was always a ”result” for any specific game(s) that were on the coupon and called off last minute.

The pools and spot the ball were a regular thing in our house when I was a kid.

I remember my parents saying it was enough for 2 decent houses.

She never checked her coupon so I can only imagine her surprise when the pools guy turned up.

Cheers BW. That’s answered my question.
It’s years since I did the Pools. Looks like the basic concept hasn’t changed.

It's still going on-line. I don't know if the door-to-door or workplace collections have continued.

A friend of mine had his weekly contribution at work collected by the janitor. One week he was due a win - not huge but worth a good night out. When he went to arrange to pick up his winnings he was met with "Sorry pal, I forgot to send it away this week". I suspect that happened in quite a few places.

I was up the fort not long ago and seen a football pools stand similar to a lottery one. Can't remember which shop

Spot the ball with Littlewoods or Vernon, you could put 50 or more crosses on the page, the centre of your cross had to be exact centre of ball to win so they said.

It was never intended to be a test of knowledge or inspired guesswork but down to sheer luck, if I remember correctly.

The ball was always on a picture on another page in the paper. Made it quite difficult to win.

I was just trying to explain the pools panel to my son this morning, and yes I did feel a slight glow when Hibs were awarded a win
