When did people start to lose respect for the emergency services?

I don't mean the police. It's fashionable to "hate the pigs" until you actually need them.

I mean the Fire and Ambulance Services.

I've always held them in the highest regard and I would automatically defer to their requests, but more and more often we read about them being attacked whilst doing their emergency jobs.

Whether it's yobs chucking stones at the fire service staff, or selfish people complaining about where an ambulance is parked.

    It's beyond rational belief.

    Another incident today http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...ngham-43260532

Idiots have always been like that, it's not new.

I started my first "proper job" in Kirkcaldy in 2002. At that time there were three streets in the town that fire and ambulance services could only attend with a police escort.

I tend to be fairly liberal, but I think we as a society are far to lenient on inexcusable knuckle-headed behaviour.

I mean - attacking the emergency services? When can that ever be excused or explained?

There's always been morons like this. With the smart phone there's just far less chance of their behaviour going undocumented these days.

The best sentence for these dicks would be to be sent out on the road with the emergency services for a month. I'm sure it would open their eyes a bit.

Bring back the stocks, I say. It's the folk who try and defend the indefensible that annoy me even more.

They need to have more powers. As in they should have the right to refuse to help.

There is a failure in society because actions no longer have proper consequences and there are too many people who no longer grow up learning that fact.

I reworded my post as I wasn't sure what I said would sound the way I meant it.

Generations of erse holes breeding more erse holes with no morals or respect. Lack of recognition of authority and responsibility. Further encouraged by the mob mentality of the ferrul dickheads that roam our cities.

Not sure my ex colleagues would be very happy being lumbered with them, their job is hard enough without having to babysit idiots.

People would like to think National Service and "boot camp" type things work, but if these cretins have no respect for authority already, why would they respect some Army authority figure bellowing at them to get our their beds at 5am and do a 20 mile run?

They'd either be booted out straight away, or else just learn to be 'harder' and, ergo, an even bigger and tougher ersehole upon finishing their stint.

Iíll never lose any respect for our ambulance and fire services.

I started to lose a little respect for the police when they fined me for getting heid butted.

In general Iím sure they are decent guys though :)

Not sure I put the police in the same bracket as the other two!

Obviously they are needed (but often not around when you do need them!) and must face some crap from the public but none the less I have little trust in them and Iíve came across a few right wallopers in blue.
