Really enjoyed article. Think finances at time made Hibs stall on making Deeks an offer and then a poor one when they did. Cost us a decent fee but was no money to spend, would also have seen demands for similar hikes from a squad flying high in league . We would have been in a bigger mess if golden generation hadnt come along and provide club with needed resource. He was a joy to watch but against the grain I dont think he had the tools to play at a higher level. You need supreme fitness strength and speed to play top level now. He didnt have these. Sitting bench at Celtic regressed him but it was a move and contract he couldnt refuse. I dont think its a coincidence Scott Brown looks a differnt player under Rodgers. Strachan turned a dynamic midfielder who created chances into half the player he was at Hibs. Riorden may have had a much differeant career if hed had a Rodgers type. We will never know. Wonder if story about Strachans daughter were true

On social side Riorden was also hounded unfairly by being a known face in a two team small city. Once press jumped on stories he had no chance. Was being reported by bitter Jambos everywhere he went. Gary Locke behaved like a grade A prick in town yet never made the press or got treatmeant Riorden got.

    Your headline gets it right.

Scotland doesn’t produce enough good players. Being a talented prospect is not enough. Becoming a top player requires dedication and graft - for whatever reason, not enough Scottish players grasp this.

Yes, have him in 2 or 3 afternoons a week coaching our young strikers.
One thing we are terrible at in Scottish football is producing goal scorers. We should have a SFA Striker School - specific to developing world class strikers, studying what has made the best, the best.

He coached Jason 2 summers ago, and did a great job I’d heard
Did Donald Park not get interviewed last year say he thought Derek would make a very good coach?

Bang on - look at Jordan Rhodes, he should have been Scotland's Shearer.

Anyway, Deek was class. O'Connor, Leigh & Deek. If these 3 had been a little bit more 'sensible' they could have been unplayable.

Leigh is unplayable. Brendan Rodgers doesn't play him.

Love this article and Riordan was my favourite player in the early 2000's. Still have my hibs tops with his name on the back GGTTH

I agree actually...and one the most natural strikers I have ever seen at Hibs.

Am I having a total blank here but who the **** was Darren Thomson? In the line up for the Partick game. Bit too early for Kevin was it not?

I think he only played 1 or 2 games for us before heading to Inverness.

He wasn't a good prospect that I'm sure works as a plumber now. Nice guy. Was that Lambies last game as a manager?

    Wtf?

1st: Anyone think he could still do a job for us?
    2nd: Bring him home Lennon

These are time-honoured classics rolled out so often that there are now abbreviations for them!
