Is there any need for this anymore? Having recently bought a new tv I canít watch sd anymore. I used to wonder what the fuss was all about with hd and ultra 4K but I get it now.
What would happen if all sd channels were removed? Would some people not be able to watch?

No, they all have hd channels as well. Iím not sure if thereís any channels that donít also have an HD option. Iím with virgin and they donít automatically put the HD option first. Sometimes you have to search for ages to find them. Iím not sure if thereís a way to have HD only.

If using Virgin, you can select HOME>TV GUIDE>HD, then whenever you hit the GUIDE button on the remote only HD channels will come up, OR, you can create a FAVOURITES bouquet and fire all the HD channels in there.

Yeah Iíve seen that, but theyíre all in the wrong order. When I had sky they just put The hd channels first.

When HD first came out I didnít notice a huge difference. Iím convinced now though that SD has been made worse as I think it looks awful now.

Not so much of a difference that I would describe SD as awful on any of our three tv's.

Sportscene on a Sunday at 6 is usually on SD.

I would go along with this in our house too.

The bigger the screen the worst the picture becomes.

I hate watching stuff in SD. Not got a 4k tv yet but as soon as my TV packs in I'm upgrading to one.

It's like watching something on VHS when you've been used to DVD.

I think thatís what it must be. On my old tv, I barely noticed the difference, but on my new tv itís like night and day.

Thatís because when HD first came out most programming was still filmed and broadcast in SD.

That would make sense then! As someone said, it may be that itís more noticeable on bigger TVs. Mine is pretty big and I always feel now thereís a huge difference.

We've got an HD compatible TV but there's no difference between SD and HD channels. The picture is good so I'm not really bothered but I'm sure it's not HD.

Heard today that channel 4 will stop broadcasting in HD on freesat from 22nd February. So much for advance in technology. Still available on all other platforms.

Scotland can be a beacon, within these islands and beyond, for a socially just and sustainable society. Whilst there are many priorities which will require independence, there is also much that can and must be done now by the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Government.

would guess nothing to do with advances in technology, more to do with the money they get from people paying sky/virgin etc for HD

To do with money, but it is what they were being asked to pay to Freesat for the HD channel. It means I will either watch C4HD on Freeview, or record in SD from Freesat
