Like many have said, Lawrie Reilly was always a true gent. He was great talking with my kids and showing a real interest in their football and what position they played.
Also Super Joe T is a great lad with some great stories.

Scott Brown was a good lad when I spoke to him when he was in The Chanter for the Celtic players Xmas Night Out, Barca v R Madrid was on the telly and he was happy to chat away for a wee while. Some of the punters faces were a picture when a few of The Rangers players wandered in too. I backed Benzema for the first goal so, it was quite a good night.

Graeme Robertson is a good lad too.

All the ex-Hibbies that turn up for The London Hibs Burns Suppers have done themselves proud too. (The train journey down/back is a right good chuckle).

Met Hartson, Lennon, Sutton and Douglas on a night out not long after the Scottish Cup Final, and just before Lenny was confirmed as our manager. All really decent blokes tbh. (Esp Lenny obvs.)

The hands down nicest footballer I've met is Paul Hanlon tho. Everything about the lad is pure class. Honestly - absolutely great lad.

Mickey Weir's a good guy. He refereed a charity match I played in and probably should have sent me off.

Martin Chivers, i actually played against him. He ran a pub team from a hotel he owned which i think was called Brookmans park?

He was a centre half in those days, and there was always an invite back to the hotel afterwards, where he'd put a spread on as good as some weddings i've been to.

A quiet man, but always willing to talk. He just came across as a real gentleman.

Erich when he had Shades was brilliant, those bloody dugs used to frighten the life out of me.

From the dark side Dave Mackay was a lovely guy. Real legend to some Spurs fans who were at a do where I met him. They were taking selfies and sending them back to London. He was getting on at the time and he must have been pretty tired.

Met John Collins on Princes street a few years ago. He was with his Mrs and took a couple of minutes out to chat. Tbh if I had the pick of meeting a former Hibs player it would be him as he was my favourite player as a teenager.

From the recent thread about footballers having a bad reputation, whats the nicest footballer you've ever came across?

I've been lucky to know a few personally, living in stockbridge a whole heap used to live there, specially that demon that is one rudi (cant bear to mention the rest)

So for me, the famous HKT was my neighbour for just over the year he was at hibs, footballing ability aside, he was probably one of the most genuine footballers i've met, gracefully gave me and my mate at the time tickets and player lounge tickets to every match, and even when he moved to Inverness, then Raith still invited us out for drinks etc... I made the mistake of going to Caley vs hibs in a full hibs tracksuit and sitting behind the inverness dugout still speak to him now and he seems to be settled down.

Another one was the Old caley keeper Fraser, for me he was my fave keeper for years, and i remember after a spectacular save against celtic, i wrote to him, few weeks later got a reply and a brand spanking new pair of sells keeper gloves, being a goalie myself i treasured them until they wore through, shames hes stopped playing.

probably the highlight was being in Malaga airport for a night flight back to london a few years ago, decide to go to the toilet and im greeted by none other than the giant that was Ruud Van Nistleroy. Spoke for about 20 minutes and he was a great laugh, nice of him to take time, gathering it was about 1am, probably would'nt have spent that much time speaking if it was in the Pm.

so has a footballer ever done anything nice for you? or have you ever wrote to a player and got a response interested to know how many of us 'normal' people actually get to socialise!

Steve Peterson, for reason that I’ve previously alluded to on the Forum
    Dirk Lehman
    Pat Stanton and Laurie Reilly
    Le God

Eric Stevenson was a terrific lovely guy
Eric ran my local (waverley hotel, bonnyrigg) and was a gem of a guy. Gordon Rae stayed behind our house when I was young and again a gem. My wife met Marvin Bartley in asda and he was brilliant, she even put him on the phone to me for a quick chat. Really nice. But I would expect most Hibs players to be nice especially to their own supporters

    Pat Stanton.
    Lawrie Reilly.
Jimmy Boco - my da bumped into him once at St James' Centre, top bloke - signed a Hertz ticket stub my dad had in his pocket from taking my wee cousin (sadly a Jambo) to Tiny, and made a joke about having to do it.

When I was based at Rosyth I used to travel in on the train to games from Inverkeithing and usually met up with Des Bremner also spoke to Jackie Mac senior in the 4 in hand a few times both great guys.

I did meet Pat Stanton once but we were both having a piss in the bogs in the old main stand so didn't think it was an appropriate time to strike up a conversation!

Away from Hibs when I lived in Bridge of Allan I used to drink in the same boozer as Terry Butcher, (I know), when he was with the Huns and he's a really nice guy.

Matt Le Tissier. I was the steward looking after him when he played a Wessex League match for Eastleigh at Andover. He came up and played for them to help us get a bigger crowd as we had been ripped off by our previous chairman.

It worked. We reckon we got an extra 500 (700 instead of 200). Most of the crowd seemed to be kids who were fans of his, hence the need for a steward to keep things calm.

When I thanked him for coming he turned round, shook my hand, told me it was his pleasure, andthanked me for looking after him. A true professional and a great man.

When getting the 7.05 train back up north in late 70's early 80's, Jim McArthur and Bobby Hutchison used to be on it, going to Kirkcaldy and Dundee respectfully. Always got us a drink without fail. Surprisingly, Willie Johnston aka |Junky Johnston was also pretty cool, always stuck £20 behind the buffet for drinks for me n me mates on the train. Willie Jamieson was also pretty cool, used to have a few beers in the southern with him and used to gab about rock music. I better keep stoom about Clerk Street and jambo fans though.

When I think back to when Benny played for us, some of the stick he took was unbelievable. He never gave anything less than 100% in every game. Good to hear that he is a decent guy.

Haven’t spoken to many pro footballers but met Grant Brebner a couple of times, total gent and genuinely happy to chat away.

Bumped into Le God just off Queensferry Street once, happy to shake my hand as we walked by each other. It was the week of final derby of 2000/01 season (Mixu missed pen 0-0 game) I wish him good luck and he shouted back “Big game!” as he walked off.

Mickey Weir, Eric Stevenson and Jim Scott at the 2011 London Hibs SC Burns night do. Gentlemen one and all. Was shaking like a ****ting dug asking Mickey for a signature. Kano was there but he was blootered and didn't look like he'd be too keen on interruption from a random so left him well alone.

Yeah, met him twice luckily. Nice person I've ever met or perhaps I was massively star struck.

Honourable mention to Gary Smith who is sound as too. There's many others around my age that I know or spoken to but aren't my heros. David Gray is a humble brilliant lad too as is Darren Fletcher, must be a Dalkeith thing.

Done fund raising with the cash buckets outside Easter Road West stand before, raising cash for new strips. Someone flung in £20, looked up and it was none other than Roy Keane. asked him, "why you at Hibs v Aberdeen"? he replied "Cant a man watch a crappy game of football"? Stood and had a chat with a couple of us before he was whisked away

John Robertson was a pleasure to talk to.

Once met Potter up the West End and he was unbelievably arrogant.

Alex Cropley lived near my aunt and uncle and was pleased to speak football with me when I was wee.
