From the recent thread about footballers having a bad reputation, whats the nicest footballer you've ever came across?
I've been lucky to know a few personally, living in stockbridge a whole heap used to live there, specially that demon that is one rudi (cant bear to mention the rest)
So for me, the famous HKT was my neighbour for just over the year he was at hibs, footballing ability aside, he was probably one of the most genuine footballers i've met, gracefully gave me and my mate at the time tickets and player lounge tickets to every match, and even when he moved to Inverness, then Raith still invited us out for drinks etc... I made the mistake of going to Caley vs hibs in a full hibs tracksuit and sitting behind the inverness dugout still speak to him now and he seems to be settled down.
Another one was the Old caley keeper Fraser, for me he was my fave keeper for years, and i remember after a spectacular save against celtic, i wrote to him, few weeks later got a reply and a brand spanking new pair of sells keeper gloves, being a goalie myself i treasured them until they wore through, shames hes stopped playing.
probably the highlight was being in Malaga airport for a night flight back to london a few years ago, decide to go to the toilet and im greeted by none other than the giant that was Ruud Van Nistleroy. Spoke for about 20 minutes and he was a great laugh, nice of him to take time, gathering it was about 1am, probably would'nt have spent that much time speaking if it was in the Pm.
so has a footballer ever done anything nice for you? or have you ever wrote to a player and got a response interested to know how many of us 'normal' people actually get to socialise!

Gordon Strachan - watched some of the 1986 World Cup final with him due to the fact he stayed near my uncle and we 'door stepped' him at half time to get an autograph. He invited us in and watched some of the second half with me and a friend. Eric Black also - top man.
From players I know, Lee Bullen. Great bloke for a Jambo a man (friend) and player who is a good example that if you work hard enough and have belief you'll make it - it's not always about talent. He's earned where is he is and deserved it

Ralphy Callaghan and Jackie Mac. True gents. Kano anaw. Jim Cruickshank - so humble.
Honourable mention for Chris Jackson on Hibs Kids days when other more senior players couldn't be arsed. Lovely guy.

Ian Pearce. Played for me at my local amateur club in England once he'd retired. Top geezer, great banter and a genuinely nice bloke.

Jim Cruikshank was a true gentleman and one of the nicest people I’ve ever met
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Eric Schaedler for me.
Had the pleasure to meet him during his second spell with a us after a Dundee midweek game in the eighties was abandoned due to fog. I lived in the west at the time and was an unemployed teenager and had virtually no money and to get through at all for the game was a real effort.
He he was so great in speaking to me and others and said he and the other players would do what they could for the out of pocket punters. The second game admittance was free, got a a good crowd and an important 3-1 win as if I remember correctly we were close to the bottom end of the league that season.
A true down to earth fans man.

Unsurprising, Lewis Stevenson.
Absolute gent and spoke away and would have done so as long as I was there. I felt like I was being a pest though and left him to it.

Funnily enough, Stokes was a nice guy when I met him. Stevenson a gent, Stanton too, Sauzee immaculate and basically everybody else whose name begins with ‘s’.

This is a very subjective thread, as it can only rely on who the poster has actually met. There’s every chance Klaus Dietrich is the nicest guy you could ever meet but who would know?
My vote would be for someone I suspect a fair number of us may have met and spoken to over the years - Stan Vincent. A really nice guy and a pleasure to talk with. There's only one thing better than a Hibs calendar and that's two Hibs calendars

Mathias jack - met him in Düsseldorf sat having beers for 4 hours. Made that trip one of my best.
Mixu - went to Drummond high school, lunchtimes Wed stand outside his house singing songs, he's regularly being his boy over and play football with us, also at reserve games he'd sit chatting with you.

The majority of footballers I've met have mostly been sound for the few minutes that I spoke to them. The one I knew best is Donald Park - a great guy but a torn-faced wee *******, so I'll have to go for Willie Woodburn. He stayed not far from me, my brother worked in his garage and his house overlooked the "quarry pitches" (Kingsknowe Park) where I spent most of my free time. He was a real gent.

Mickey Hughes of the original Wimbledon. Least nice was Teddy Sherringham. Both at one Match MOM in sponsors lounge.
However as said above it’s a bit subjective and maybe different on a different day.

Lawrie Reilly. A total gentleman/legend who was nice enough to ignore the fact that I was acting like a nine year old lassie meeting Bieber for the first time.

Simon Murray, was superb with my son when he met him before a league cup game in the summer.
Then had a dealing with him Through my work and he was spot on then too.
Used to have some dealing with Alan Orman, he could be a great guy one minute but then turn bat **** crazy the next.
