Sadly I think he was one of those young players we utterly ruined because we had such naff senior pros around them. The young ones - Harris, Booth, Stanton - were expected to carry a team rather than have a few decent, experienced older guys around who would carry them instead and take the pressure off. This would have allowed them to develop and thrive.

I agree about Booth but I’m not convinced the other two didn’t carry the team (whether it was expected of them is a different matter). Harris and Griffiths carried that team towards the end of 2012/13 season and I’m sure Gordon Strachan mentioned something to this effect in the press which I think might have been used as a put down towards Griffiths. Stanton was about the only decent player under Butcher so you could argue he carried that team as well.

I think what affected them all were managerial changes. Fenlon clearly didn’t fancy Booth, Butcher ruined Harris’ confidence (along with that Motherwell thug) and Stubbs obviously didn’t rate Stanton either in comparison to what we had. Booth was affected twice as it seemed Butcher really liked him and wanted him back whilst he was on loan but Butcher was replaced by Stubbs who played Booth a bit but decided to get rid.
