    NZ Prime Minister is pregnant

The Prime Minister has announced that she is pregnant. The baby will arrive in June, after which she planned to take a six-week break. She is now set to be the second elected world leader to give birth while in office - and the first to do so in almost 30 years.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern that is - not ours.

She found out before she became Prime Minister. Should she have accepted becoming PM knowing that she was up the duff? Discuss (whilst I grab some popcorn).

Of course she should have accepted it. It would’ve looked terrible if she hadn’t taken the job due to being pregnant. If women are to have proper equal rights, then it has to apply in every walk of life.

I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised that nobody has taken the bait and posted that she shouldn’t have taken the job on. A few people in ‘real life’ yesterday, albeit very old school people, argued that she shouldn’t have taken it with the argument that Trump has got stick for the amount of ‘leave’ he’s had (i.e. golf time) and in turn Obama got stick from Trump for the same and this is a longer period that she’s be off. The basis of their argument is that an elected leader shouldn’t have distractions.

On a separate note, I knew someone, a woman no less, who thought getting pregnant should be a sackable offence due to the disruption maternity leave caused.

I don't really understand the fuss and why this should be news.

I think it's fantastic that the leader of a country can finally lead by example when it comes to working mother's capabilities and entitlements after childbirth. She just needs to make a good job of it now.
