    R.I.P Tim Upton

Tim Upton passed away in Luxembourg on 10th Jan. Details are vague for the moment but I've seen it confirmed on a Chess website. Tim was an accomplished player & Scottish internationalist. We believe the funeral will be this Saturday in Luxembourg & charitable donations (possibly a Cancer charity) rather than flowers are requested.

    Fondly remembered & sadly missed.

    I'll post more when know.

Was he a Hibs fan then? I remember him for the chess.

Edit: just looked online and there’s a reference to him being a Hibs supporter in a nice blog by ex Scottish champion Paul Motwani

RIP Tim. Lovely bloke who regularly travelled from Luxembourg to follow the Hibees.

    Your memory marches on.

    A lovely tribute.

Sounded like a great guy. Thoughts are with his family and friends.

Thank's for posting and sharing the link. A very well worded and heartfelt obituary.

It's sad news. I knew Tim slightly, originally because our parents were friends.

There was a story in the Scottish Chess Magazine a few years ago about a time when Tim was playing for Scotland in an international tournament in Greece and was standing at a bus stop on the way to the venue. A passing group of hooligans from one of the Athens clubs spotted the Hibs jersey he was wearing that day and took exception to it. Fortunately he had enough sprinting speed to reach safety.
