Last time I was back in Edinburgh I didn't hire a car because I wanted to walk the city. I'd never noticed before how many churches were in the city of all denominations and many literally next door to each other. It must have been a sight back in the day with them all competing against each other for custom.

Across the centre of the city there's a real spread in particular, with maybe the two St Mary's as bookmarks

And then you get somewhere like Holy Corner, though I think at least one of the four churches isn't a church as such, anymore.

One of the things that also struck me was I remember watching a programme about Worcester Cathedral, a particularly pretty cathedral that overlooks the Worcestershire County Cricket Club pitch.

The stonework is grey and battered by centuries of the weather, like many churches, but when it was originally built it was seemingly painted in a myriad of colours. This wasn't uncommon and must have made for some sight.
There's only one thing better than a Hibs calendar and that's two Hibs calendars

Architecture (particularly churches), I wouldn't say I get it but, I can appreciate it, in years gone by it completely passed me by (I've not got a religious bone in my body so, dear knows whats happened there)!
In a similar pseud's vein , art. Not that I'm a huge fan but if you'd told the young me I'd make an effort to go and see various paintings in museums in various places you'd have got short shrift.

While I've always been aware of the Old Masters, seeing them in books and on TV, when you see them "in the flesh" it does take your breath away. The colour and detail just doesn't come across in any form of reproduction.

I'm more of a late-impressionists-onwards person but this definitely falls into that category, possibly my favourite painting, it's in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris.

... and no colour but this has to be seen in the flesh:

Getting back to the church theme, the Sistene chapel was genuinely breathtaking as well. I expected to be underwhelmed but wowsers.

I'm at the Kevin Bridges stage of art appreciation when it comes to visiting art galleries.
