Is the story about Mowbray hooking him at half time in his trial true? So nobody could pinch him? Heard it a few times and always wondered.
Was one of my favourite ever players, the unbeatable derby and ibrox win were particular highlights

Haven’t heard that story, but possibly true if Mowbray wanted him signed up before anyone else could nab him
Fantastic talent, sadly career ended too early for our liking

Did we not have one of Dwight Yorke's pals on trial once?
We had half the T&T national team at one time.

The story's true but was long before Mowbray, was McLeish.

How about Ronnie Rosenthal? Trialist at Hibs success in the first team at Liverpool. I'm probably the only person here who actually witnessed his trial but that's another story...
Damn, I was going to mention him, scored a hatrick did he not?

"Like finding a diamond in the sand" said Mowbray at the time. How true was that?

Think Stuart Lovell was on trail to prove fitness after a bad injury with reading. Always liked him as a player.

Didier Agathe did that well on his month long Hibs trial that we never seen him again.

Interesting thread. I suppose it's a matter of perspective and the true test of how successful our trialist picking has been is whether anyone we trialled, and rejected, went on to be big names at other clubs at a similar or higher level. Obvious to say I know, but a triallist who hasn't been selected (and did he haww in their career elsewhere) is a successful trial for the club...

Didn't Ian Murray come to ER & knock on the door asking for a trial, after having been released by Arabs?
Don't think he was released. Iirc he was offered a family holiday to Euro Disney as an incentive to sign for us.

McLeod definitely was. Unless our own John Campbells book, In Colours Green and White, is talking pish (sacrilege?...) Dec 1982 vs Dundee reserves.
Certainly wasn't 1982, Super Ally joined Hibs in 1974.

    Benji?

I mind loads of talk on here at the time about some mysterious triallist who was scoring wonder goals at training sessions but who was struggling to get match fit. There was real hype going about - which kind of fell flat on his debut when he still clearly wasn't match fit.

Had his issues but over the piece i think you have to class him as a success?

There was some Trinidadian as well wasn't there? Russ somebody... No wait... Tony Rougier! that was it.

Remember the desperate days of Juha Riippa and Thorsten Schmugge! One hit wonders, if you could call them that!

I'm sure Fraser Forster had trials with Hibs. HE was let go presumably because of the high level of goalkeeping talent on our books in the recent past.

I thought Riippa actually looked decent in his one and only appearance at Tynecastle - pretty brave of Jocky Scott to drop a trialist into a Derby but we were down to bare bones at the back if I recall correctly!

Torben Joneleit(sp)? Yeah he was an exciting one who we never really saw any of. Shame.
