Police have said it was a deliberate act but said it was too early to say whether it was terrorist-related.

Scotland can be a beacon, within these islands and beyond, for a socially just and sustainable society. Whilst there are many priorities which will require independence, there is also much that can and must be done now by the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Government.

I know I may be opening a can of worms here, but what exactly defines a terrorist-related incident like this from one that is not terrorist-related?

Surely the deliberate act of driving a car into people on purpose is a terrorist act whichever way you look at it?

There was a similar incident last year and it turned out to be a man with mental health issues. The headlines were all terror related, though.

The act causes terror, but there is a presumed definition now that terrorism is related to what one could call 'religious extremists'

2 arrested so the police will be able to interrogate them at least.

“He is a person known to Victoria Police. He has historical assault matters and has a history of drug use as well as mental health issues. We understand that he was on a mental health plan and receiving treatment.
“We do not at this time have any intelligence to indicate that there is a connection to terrorism.”

Feels sad that I regard this as slightly good news. Might be unusual but always find it a little more comforting that it's not another hit from a larger despicable terrorist group.

Fingers crossed there are no eventual fatalities.

Ramming a vehicle into 19 people is a totally normal response to being a drug user and being a bit sad, especially if you're from Afghanistan.

    I was being sarcastic.

The Australian Police are quick to blame it on mental health, let’s be honest most Islamists have mental health problems. It was a deliberate and planned act, note that the idiot that done this happened to pick one of the busiest streets in the city without the vehicle barriers, clearly an act of terrorism. The second man arrested had a bag of knives too!

That is quite a bold statement. How many 'Islamists' do you know to be in a position to make that statement.

As for the second man arrested. There is no link between the two according to the police, he was stopped because he was filming the incident, probably on his way to an audition at a circus.

It’s not hard to collate them together mate, if you’ve been brainwashed into blowing yourself up, going on a stabbing rampage or driving 40 tonne trucks into Xmas markets then clearly you have mental health problems.

Just reading up about the 2nd guy with the bag of knives, yeah it seems the both aren’t related apparently, however when I go out into the town I regularly empty the contents of my second drawer into my back pack 😉

Maybe he was a chef? It's happened to more than a couple of colleagues of mine.
