    Keith Chegwin - sad news

Died today after a long illness.

    Only 60.

Scotland can be a beacon, within these islands and beyond, for a socially just and sustainable society. Whilst there are many priorities which will require independence, there is also much that can and must be done now by the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Government.

Look out for him in Roman Polanski’s film of Macbeth. He played Fleance, Banquo’s son.

A troubled character who was a real life weeble, you could knock him down but he'd bounce back up. Didn't find him entertaining in the slightest but you've got to respect his staying power and lust for life. RIP wee man.

For some reason, I thought he was one of those entertainers who had been caught up in the avalanche of misconduct, but I was definitely wrong!

I met him once when I was a young child at the Hinckley Island hotel near Coventry - my parents were a bit more into that meeting than I was, as I never really knew who he was, but since he was the first famous person I'd met, you can bet I told everyone about it.

    60 is indeed no age.

Its kind of a sad indictment of modern life when you assume if you were involved in British kids telly in the 70s you are probably of interest to Operation Yewtree. But I assumed the same thing about him, wrongly as it turned out.

I’m sure he had quite a long battle with the drink. I seem to remember hearing stories about him drinking mouthwash when he had ran out of alcohol. He always seemed a cheery guy, hopefully he was over his problems before he died.

I think he had beaten his drink problems. He was certainly in recovery for a good few years. Seems it was a lung problem which killed him, so it doesn't sound drink related.
