And Saving Private Ryan was released after the second world war ended so it's definitely not a second world war film.

Not only is it a Christmas film, so is its sequel Die Hard 2: Die Harder

  14. #13
Not for me. I regard Christmas films as ones that help Ďget me into the festive spirití.

Die hard, while good, doesnít do that.

I realise it may for some who watch it as a Christmas tradition. But then a lot of people do the same with the great escape, albeit it hasnít got the Christmas setting or references like die hard. Regardless.. both good films, neither Christmas films. In my opinion.

Itís a wonderful life, miracle on 34th st, elf, and all the cheesey cartoon/reindeer ones are the real Christmas films!

It's an action film that's set at Christmas.

I voted yes because it has become a Christmas film in the minds of the public

Stewie Griffin goes to the North Pole to kill Santa Clause .... now that's a proper Christmas film

Die Hard is most definitely a Christmas film.

I've had many a blissful sleep watching it after dinner.

If you've got young kids in the house over the festive season The Snowman and Stick Man are both a must.

Of course it's a Christmas film. It's set at Christmas, the title music's a winter song, and the cop has a big teddybear for his wee girl's present. The bad guys all get their just deserts, and virtue triumphs over evil. And I believe there's a Christmas tree.

I would consider 'RED' a Christmas film as well - they've got all the Christmas lights up at the start, so ot takes place at the right time of year..

And although there are no obvious signs of the season, 'To Live And Die In LA' takes place over the Christmas period.

Now that's a very good movie - Bill Petersen, Willem Dafoe, John Pankow, John Turturro.

All these are traditional favourites in the Doddie household.

A lot better than that rotten Snowman.

Ignoring the time of year, the christmas tree and all the other associated pish that people have used to try and justify it as a Christmas film it certainly aint one in my eyes.
I class a "Christmas" film as one involving the traditional magic of Christmas, Santa, Elves, Christmas miracles etc. An all action shoot them, kill them, with explosions and scenes of violence will never in a million years be considered a Christmas film in my eyes.

Saving an office full of people from an organised group of terrorists is a Christmas miracle 😉

Always been my take on it. If you remove every Christmas reference fron Die Hard it still works as a brilliant action movie, no one would think less of it if the hostages were enjoying a summer party.

On the other hand would Miracle on 34th Street work as a gripping legal drama if you removed the Christmas references? No, because it's primarily a Christmas film whilst Die Hard isn't.
