Where behind the scenes the agent will be telling Madrid he wants more cash. Sure we’ve seen this before with him.

It's probably not about the money in terms of actual cash value. It's more about the money paid being used as an indicator of who is the best player in the world - i.e. it's an ego trip. That said, if you thought you were the best player in the world, would you want to be the best paid player in the world?
Personally, I'm not that self-centred however, some folk are, and that's fine.
