I love Ireland and spend a good number of weeks there throughout the year after marrying an Irish girl, but have no affinity to the national football side at all. As has been highlighted by others, and what I say to my in laws and friends over there is they are just not an easy watch.

They have to play to their strengths. They just don't have the players to play lovely football.

Any football would be good, let's be honest O'Neill football style has always been poor to watch.

I dunno. I remember his excellent Celtc team playing some really good stuff. If he gets Ireland to the World Cup, the ends will justify the means.

There were some good footballers in that UEFA Cup final era: Larsson, Petrov, Thompson, Maloney, Agathe. It wasn't just a long ball team, as I remember it.

I’ve been here for 12 years and my only interest in Ireland winning is for friends and family. To be fair most folk are in agreement that the football is eye bleeding. I switched it off last night, too bored. Saying that they have every chance making it there & yet again we don’t.

True - played for 0-0 and got it, which gives them a strong chance now.

Not sure about that. I'd make Denmark favourites. One goal is all they need to leave that Ireland team needing two goals, and with Eriksen they have a player who can do anything.

Both teams available at the same odds from actual bookmakers

In my initial OP I thought Ireland would sneak it in a close tie but despite a decent result in Copenhagen Im going for Denmark now, im convinced they will score in the return match.

I hope the Nordies can pull off a shock tonight as I'd like to see them qualify for the buzz it would create around the place.

However I think it'll be a case of Ulster says D'oh tonight as I think the Swiss will be too strong. Failure will at least have the silver lining of Kyle Lafferty being absent from next year's finals. So either way there'll definitely be something to celebrate tonight

Hats off to N Ireland if they manage to pull it off. Cant see it though, the Swiss are quite a decent team IMO. The weather conditions look a bit on the wet, well soaked, side so that might effect the game and football being football N Ireland could score in the first few minutes, then what? All to play for.

Aye, it's a huge ask of Northern Ireland now. Best of luck to them.

    I've just fallen over.

Thought this guy didn't play as he was permanently-injured?

The luck of the oirish holding out for these guys as well. They really should be about four goals down already.

Can't see Northern Ireland turning this around. It would be terrific for such a tiny country to make another tournament; they put Scotland to shame.

I really couldn't bear Laugherty appearing in the World Cup if he's still in the team.

Looks like the N Ireland game is being played at The Gyle judging by the pitch 😀
