Loved the wee bit where SJM threw the ball between his legs when about to take the free kick. Totally bossed him. There was another moment where SJM shielded the ball as he does but holds him off for an extra second or so. Seemed to be a show of strength and just emphasised the 'back pocket' nature of that contest

McGinn's always had a lot of strength for a wee guy - he gets closer to defenders than anyone I can think of and uses his body really well. More importantly the decent break seems to have done him a world of good. He's even finding his men with passes, something he's been struggling with since his return from injury.

Agree entirely McGinn won that contest hands down.
Seemed to relish taking the ball in and asking them to come through the back of him to knock him off the ball to get it, not one was able to.

McGinn looks taller and stronger, he bullied the midfield even Cattermole thought twice at one 50/50, I think he's moved on another level already.

Totally get that Lewie got MOTM being his testimonial and all. But, in all honesty. McGinn was clearly the best player on the park today! He's just such a good player and will go on to great things. I'm going to appreciate the upcoming season if he stays as it may be a while until we see a player like him at Easter Road again.

Do Sunderland have any money to spend under their new owners?
Wasnt there today but just wondering if the performance may come back to haunt us?

Looked like the Sunderland lad had been sent out to man mark McGinn, and had a few niggly go's at McGinn.
SJM handled it all and looked to getting right under the lads skin, talking to him, noising him up, threw the ball through his legs at the free kick. Really looked like SJM was relishing playing against supposedly higher standards of players, certainly more expensive, and looked the best player on the pitch.

13. Million for ndong and to think Ipswich bid 1 million for SJM. He bossed him all game.

SJM definitely looked a cut above today but particularly in the second half. I'll be delighted if he's still here come 1st September. If he goes we need to get top dollar as he's irreplaceable.

Assuming N'Dong was the player with the blond streak in his hair who came on in the second half, he was kicking everything. £13m is unreal compared to the pittance being bid for McGinn who bossed him.

SJM has been excellent so far and looks fitter, bigger, stronger and faster than last year. His passing has been exceptional at times and I have a wee feeling that he may be an 8-10 goalscorer this year.

However, the rest he has had has obviously done him the world of good. He has been outstanding in the two games with four assists.
We absolutely must keep him this season if we want to compete at the top end of the league.

Let's just keep the lad until the end of the season
