Never said it did. The oblique is in there for a reason.

Again, didn't say it did. If folk have transport strategy reasons, then fair enough. Confident all will come out okay in the end, though.

I read after the first day they expected 80,000 vehicles which would have included sightseeing types, the actual figure was 10,000 more!

Many years ago I was speaking with a traffic planner type person. One thing I remember from that was the difference between free flowing traffic and gridlock was a difference of just 3% volume.
Well nothing is as queer as folk I suppose...warned of serous delays they still get in their car and sit for an hour in traffic just to drive over a bridge.

We'll just have to wait and see I suppose and as I said I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the damn thing improves.

On the south side having a motorway and a dual carriageway join and then instantly drop to 40mph, it's obvious there's going to be delays. Once it's 70 it will be fine or at least much better.

Some people (social media not meaning here) love a moan and most of the time without thinking it through.

But is that not what we had whilst the new bridge was being built, and with no significant queues?
There's certainly a lot more "tourist" traffic but there's also the suggestion that the road layout (although temporary) is adding to the congestion.

Interesting stat if correct, just shows how difficult it is to manage new road layouts, junctions etc.

every morning there would be queues back to admiralty (on a good day) or halbeath (on a bad day). these wont disappear just because theres a new bridge or speeds get back up to 70mph.
And by queues, i mean slow moving traffic. 15 minute delays would be the norm.
    Same going home at night.

They should experiment and make the whole thing a 40. that'll mess up a few clutches

The only thing the new bridge should help with is broken down vehicles (hard shoulder if it can be used) and less closures due to high winds. It'll do nothing for volume of traffic, IMO.

People always find something to moan about.

However i did think that not using the new bridge to increase current capacity significantly (either for roads or room for trains / trams) was a mistake, given its lifespan is circa one hundred years.

Aye, I'm fairly familiar with the road bridge delays but I was questioning FrazeHFC's suggestion the merging of roads prior to the bridge going North was the issue

That's been the case since the M9 link was built and the road speed (& average cameras) was reduced to prevent accidents with drivers rubber necking to observe the advancement of the new/replacement road bridge.
There's definitely MUCH more congestion and queues (miles of) just now, whether it's this 3% stat causing it (infrastructure tourism) or lane design I'm sure it'll all come good!

You should have taken her reg and reported her...particularly as there will be camera footage of her on the bridge.

If he were Lee Wallace the story would have been about her ramming his car off the edge of the bridge whilst snorting lines from a copy of Mein Kampf.

They are planning to build houses between queensferry and the new motorway. This is fine, but they are then planning to close the road/roundabout by mcdonalds. This will mean all queensferry traffic going through queensferry itself, rather than going along the top road, and heavily increase traffic outside Echline primary school. Absolute joke if they do that, dangerous road as it is never mind increasing the volume of traffic. Petition people been round our house today against it. Can see a huge backlash.

    a) I don't have a 'lot'. That's why I'm critical of all parties rather than having to put out Pravda-speak for just one.

    b) It's just a bridge.

That's like saying Big Ben is just a clock. The new bridge is spectacular and a fabulous piece of engineering. It is a modern, cutting edge design and something we should be proud of in Scotland. It adds to the already special and iconic setting of the rail and 1st road bridge over the Firth of Forth. I am an engineer so may be a bit biased but I think it is very very special

Obviously it's a modern design, innit. It's not as if anyone's going to spend multisquillions erecting a structure that's 40 or 50 years out of date!
