    This close season is the most mental I can ever remember. This is the kind of thread you would expect over the road. He will get a club in England who will pay him 20 to 30 k per week we could offer about a tenth of that!

    He might struggle to get that from any club at the moment. So he may forced to reduce his asking price. But it is a long shot. I guess I'm putting my heart into this post rather than my head

    Stewart Downing will no doubt be getting offers from a host of championship teams offering 10k+, but aye he'd be interested in signing for us on 2k a week 🙄🙄 unbelievable at times on here

    Don't think anybody is disputing his quality. Just highly unlikely he'd come here for a four figure wage. He will have plenty offers from clubs down south I'm sure.

    He's not coming here, I think we all know that, but to be honest I don't think he'd be that big a success in Scotland anyway. Guy never met his potential and only commands such a big wage because he's English and plays in England. Younger days he'd maybe have ripped our league up but now I'd guess, like many other stars who come up in the twilight of their career expecting a walk in the park, he'd find it a hard league than expected. Better players than Stewart Downing haven't made the grade in Scotland.

    Downing has had a pretty fine career. You don't play that many games in EPL just because you're English.

    He's younger than Kris Commons and IMO he's a better player.

    Very very good player ........... which is what about 50 or 60 clubs down south who can offer better wages than us are saying about him as well, this board is getting barmier and barmier as the close season progresses

    He's not going to struggle at all to get that. He's got 2 years left on a contract at Boro that guarantees it. If he leaves it'll likely see that subsidised by Boro. I'm not sure Boro will be too keen on us offering to pay £2k of his £50k a week wage.

    I agree. Downing, 5pm announcements, Lennon away, McGinn to Watford etc, etc, etc. Can't wait for the season to start and the window to close
