    The Fenn Treasure

This story caught my eye today:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-40344676

I remember reading extensively about Forrest Fenn and his alleged treasure chest that he buried in 2010, and while I'm certain he has indeed buried the treasure (worth well over a million dollars) it's troubling that some people are willing to take extreme risks to find it. Forrest has come out and said on more than one occasion that he buried it as an 80 year old man and is certain he could go dig it up again if so inclined so people should not be taking risks trying to find this thing.

I can see the attraction of going out to look for this thing, some families make an annual pilgrimage to new sites along the Rockies as their yearly holiday in the hope of striking it lucky. There have been calls from various officials and relatives of people who have died looking for this thing pleading with Forrest to reveal the location to put an end to the risk taking that goes on trying to find it. Personally I'm quite enamoured by the idea of an antique roman box filled with treasure sitting somewhere in the Rockies just waiting to be discovered. Might just be the big kid in me though.

Even if he didn't bury it he can't admit it now. Two people have died trying to find it, imagine the outcry if he announced it was a hoax.

The cynic in me thinks its just an elaborate hoax to shift more of his memoirs.
