Good on them. All clubs should have it.
First normal post on a thread full of drivel.

Agree. It's a good idea. Would love to see it at ER.

According to this article Celtic spent £ 500,000 on their safe standing area.

It's a good idea although if the yams do it I'm sure it would have to be in their new stand. The rake of their other stands is too steep.
The ratio of Celtics is strictly 1 to 1 so there was no increase in capacity at Celtic park. It would be the same for us or the yams.
    I think it's a good idea.

It's basically just seats with a guardrail built into the back for the person standing behind.

  5. #34
As there always has to be a seat for everyone standing it's a costly exercise for the club.

Agree. Possible to recognise a good idea whilst sticking to the perfectly sound principle of having a go at the poppy thieves at the same time.

Like everything else they (might) do timing is everything.

I think their existing stands are too steep to allow safe standing, however, I can't remember the last time I sat down at a derby match, so it probably isn't beyond the realms of possibility - that said, they may have to do something to make it 'safe'.

Either way, it's going to cost them more money - just another hurdle that Budget is putting in front of Save Hearts In Trouble to slow down fan ownership perhaps?

  10. #39
No increase in capacity. Waste of money.
The only positive is you could jump around to keep warm in winter.

I always thought it increased capacity - is that just the system they use in Germany?

At Celtic Park it's basically expensive seats.

Couldn't care less what they do or what the capacity of their ground will be. They will always be Hearts, you can't polish a turd.

    Yams looking at safe-standing

In Germany they don't always use safe standing. At Dortmund it is just an old fashioned terrace where the yellow wall is and they bolt seating in for Euro games.
Takes them two days to install all the seating.
You can see the brackets for it at Ozyhibby jnr's feet.

Looking at the pics at Celtic Park I can't see any reason why we couldn't buy a few hundred of them and stick them in the singing section in the FF upper.

It's not exactly going to break the bank doing a small area like this. If it works, make the entire top tier standing and get rid of the posh seats. That would increase the capacity enough to annoy our neighbours!

In an ideal world I'd do the corner between the East and FF as as been mentioned if the demand is there in the future.

    It's a costly process.

ICT looked at it a few years back and the cost for a rail seat, similar to what Celtic have, was £75 each back then. 500 seats at £75 before labour is £37500. I think Celtic paid in the region of £500K for just over 2000 seats.

It's a great idea in theory but in practice it's a lot of money for unproven gains. If there is insistence in operation on a 1 to 1 policy (as opposed to the 2 to 1 elsewhere) then there's no capacity increase which would be one of the main drivers of any scheme.

There is some rail seating but not all of it. Capacity of the yellow wall drops from 25,000 to 16,000 when the seating is in.

I think it has to be the new one as the rake can't be more than 25% and the three existing stands are 34%.
Some chat on kickback that it will be the Gorgie stand but I can't see how.

I'm all for Hearts and other clubs doing this as its a great thing.

HOWEVER are they doing it so as its an excuse at a later date so they can't play European football at tynie??

Maybe someone in the know will tell me if the originally needs the seats in or can it just be like an old still standing area??? If it can be done like that then they can use the excuse that unfortunately that's why we can't play in Europe here and the inbreds will actually beLIEve it.

You can play in Europe. There are still seats installed. They just get unlocked for European games.

Is the 25% rake thing not just for open terracing such as Dortmunds?

With the "safe" stuff everyone has a barrier in front of them anyway so why would it matter. Can't for the life of me think where but I'm sure I've seen safe standing in steep top tiers while watching foreign games...either Spain or Germany.

Never felt safe standing in all my time of going to Tynecastle. Especially before segregation and just after seeing the 'Beware of Picketpockets' signs in and around the ground.

If this costs more than putting in a standard seat, there's gonna have to be a lot more bake sales and bingo in gorgie before this happens at the bus shelter...

If Safe Standing means Rails Seats, does that imply that the majority of clubs in Germany have Unsafe Standing?

FWIW, the Allianz Arena has traditional terracing behind both goals for domestic matches and it seems safe enough to me.
