Thought I only saw positive comments from Pennant's time at Bury on here.

Think there's a slight difference, Pennant joined in Jan and would have taken a while to settle in with his new team and regs in match sharpness. Lambert by all accounts just seems to have lost ability or interest and was publicly called out by his manager about it.

Can see us signing Church and Pennant by the end of the week to try raise morale a bit.

Hope not, certainly not for those reasons. Cannot at all costs sign 2 players and use up 2 wages on just raising morale. Time will tell but I think if you asked most Hibs fans to choose between Jermaine Pennant and GMS, most would choose the latter. We are not appearing to do great business at the moment and Pennant might play great and Church might be what we need but signing a striker that Aberdeen only signed to fill the void of a Rooney injury (Church) and a 34 year old winger that Sunderland fans sung "Jermaine Pennant we thought you were dead" at (distastefully most would agree) does not fill me with great confidence. Obviously I'll leave it to those that are football experts etc. but Church has played less than 250 games and is 28 years old and is on loan more than anything else...put it this way, neither would get me excited, I might be the odd one out though!

Not for me, it's all about what they do for us. If Hibs sign them then I expect them to compliment what we have at our disposal already.

The amount of panicking and giving the club a hard time is nonsense.

See Rafa Benitezs comments on the transfer window, Newcastle are having the same problems as us on a much larger budget.

Players are leaving their options open and there isn't much we can do. If we issue take it or leave it deals then we end up with another Fyvie Fiasco on our hands potentially.

At this point I'd take Charlotte Church.

Tying up wages on Pennant?? Behave yourself.

We're not looking at Pennant as the messiah who'll take us to 2nd in the league and Scottish Cup win on his own! He's a good addition to the squad and clearly good value for what we can probably get him for. A marked upgrade on Humphrey I expect.

Church may or may not do the job but if we won't be tying up a huge slice of wages brining him in if we do.

Is Pennant a super fit 34 year old that is unlikely to get injured? Is he going to be a 1st team regular? Or is he an impact sub or 60min player like Holt? I'm struggling to understand how we wouldn't be tying up wages on Pennant unless he is playing for free or are you suggesting one of the aforementioned points regarding him being super fit or likely 1st team regular? Any player we sign we have to pay in some way so I'm not sure what the confusion is? I do generally try to behave myself though, just to clarify that point!

A marked improvement on Humphrey...I'd only expect to know that if Pennant has an impact in games that mean anything, Humphrey did when he wasn't injured. I think he'd be an OK signing but I'd also guess he's likely to get injured or be unable to play every single game.

The part in bold, I think I understand what you are getting at, something to do with slices and bringing him in based on the slice Church is wanting. So, what are we saying? If the slice is small enough, get them signed up regardless of talent? Again most fans would have taken GMS over Pennant. If Pennant signs he needs to prove his worth. I'd suggest he'll be asking for a fair wage if he does as well. Not last pay day stuff but he'll hardly be viewing his visit to Hibs as some charity case to the club...

The whole point I'm trying to make (admittedly badly) is that it's about value. We need a squad and if we can get good value with bringing guys like Pennant in on a reasonable wage then it's worth doing.

There's no way we'll be bringing in these players and paying them over the odds for the job we expect them to do. If you're worries that by bringing them in that we'll. I longer be able to afford guys like Stokes who would be our main striker, then you needn't worry.

Probably kills any deal for Henderson though, not sure they can both deliver.

I'm close to getting a season ticket but the lack of signings is stopping me. With the players Hibs have missed out on it will take a marquee signing for me to do so. Aberdeen have signed the calibre of player Hibs should be with the infrastructure at the club. Transfer window is becomming disasterous. Top six is now looking like it will be an achievment.

Can't believe anyone is holding out on us making a marquee signing before buying a season ticket.

At the risk of being called a yam, why on earth would a player choose us over aberdeen? They've finished 2nd the last 2/3 years, pay more than us and we've only just been promoted to the premiership. Yes we're on the up again but we're still considerably behind aberdeen
