Did you for example watch the St Mirren game.?
With the exception of Holt, did anyone play well against St Mirren?

Cummings came closest to scoring second half and with his right foot too

    Absolutley.

its just when you hear us linked with

    Commons
    Samaras
    Maloney
    Stokes
    Ambrose

it gets a bit tiring haha.

    Add to that guys like

    Whitttikar
    Henderson
    Allan

its all obvious, hope we are being proactive in our scouting and not just looking at older players.

fwiw I trust Lennon and Dempster and awful lot and fully expect us to make the right signings and the majority of which are paper talk.

All of that being said, I would complain for a second if we signed 90% of that list
I'm less concerned about age and more about the quality and imo all those players you have listed have undoubted quality for the top league in Scotland.

Regardless of the Lennon link if someone had said to me before Lennon was appointed that those are the calibre of player we were potentially signing I'd have bitten your hand off.

That's pretty much how I see it. Judge each incoming player by quality and our needs at this time.

There is also that pesky thing called money but regardless, each on his on merits.

    Quite exciting actually.

    Left by mutual consent!
If Gary Mackay-Stevens is still any good and viable to be signed I'd hope that's something we would investigate.

I was hoping that might be to give Hibs a nudge to up the anti.... we do want him.

Looks like Mallan to Barnsley is pretty much done. Disappointed we didn't try for him, although i doubt we could match the wages they'd offer.

Still rather we looked at Morgan

You would think that is the sort of fee we could cope with if we wanted the player. Disappointed if we don't go for him.

Is he not the same position as Danny Swanson?

A big disappointment. Hoped we would have done a McGinn type deal with St Mirren for Mallan. It would have suited both teams.
I am surprised that St Mirren didn''t get on the phone to other teams including us when Barnsley offered £200k.

The Sun article does say Barnsley 'showed the strongest interest' in him which makes me wonder if we were really serious about signing Mallan, but I'm strongly tempted to disbelieve anything that the Sun say about Scottish football.

On Sportsound they've just announced that the Mallan to Barnsley thing is nonsense, he's not agreed a pre-contract or anything like that.

Thought he had a year of his contract to go so he can't sign a pre contract.

There wouldn't be a pre-contract at this stage anyway. He's still contracted at St Mirren until 2018

My apologies, he has indeed got a year left. But they did say the Barnsley thing is a non-starter as it stands, apparently they made an approach through some website instead of phoning or speaking to the player or his agent, and he hasn't agreed to anything.

£200k is a snip for Mallan. Think there will be further action on this one. Sainties won't give him away even if he can command a big salary down there and he agitates for a move.

Someone else will come in with a bigger offer.

My feeling is we could match the £200k but get nowhere near the wages he will want to be paid.

    Shame but that's life.

The offer was sent through to a St Mirren fan site rather than to St Mirren themselves. The DR still reporting that it's a done deal despite the mix up

Sky now reporting Barnsley have agreed a 300k fee for Mallan. Think we can safely strike that one off the list.

Given permission to speak to him. If Lennon really wanted him I'm sure we'd match that.

    Anyway, I'd rather have Hendo...

Hibs would be a good step up for him and like McGinn he would get a good move down south (better than perennial strugglers Barnsley) after a couple of seasons if he did well.

Sky sources saying Efe Ambrose is close to signing a "short term deal" - Whatever that means??

    6 months maybe? Interesting anyway.

  27. #386
Not sure why the club would be considering signing efe till Jan? Surely that can only leave us in bother from Jan onwards swapping about key centre back pairings.

Would love to keep efe but if he's desperate only to sign till January let's stick with Hanlon and McGregor.

Not interested in a player that only wants to be here for six months - we have two excellent centre-backs and unless he's replacing one of them for a whole season then that'll leave us in a massive amount of bother in January.

Maybe Hanlon's injury is worse than first thought.

Indeed. Hanlon seems to have no idea when he will be back.

If we can get him in for six months and see from there surely that's better than not having him?
