Can anyone advise the best route to Hampden by car. Normally go M8 , M73 then M74 but not sure with M8 roadworks on the go at the moment.Had looked at leaving at Newhouse then cutting across to pick up the M74.

Try M9 then 876(think)to Glasgow,it joins the M8 well past the road works and takes no longer. Then take the George Square exit and go across town

A725 thru East Kilbride, A726 Queensway then Carmunnock bypass all the way to Hampden. Longer but no holdups so quicker.

The slip road off the M8 to East Kilbride has changed, so watch out for the sign not long after Eurocentral. Later on you'll come to the Raith Interchange which is a big mess at the moment. You want to stick to the middle lane for the cutoff to EK. Alternatively take the A71 from Edinburgh all the way through to East Kilbride, it'll take longer but no hold ups really. Drive straight through EK, keep on going a mile or so till you come to a roundabout and take a right there (the Carmunnock bypass). Go straight ahead, until you come to another big roundabout at the top of Castlemilk. Turn left and follow the road, going straight through the roundabout at the bottom of the hill. Keep on going until you come to a fork in the road, take the right fork and you're on to Aitkenhead Road, drive along about a mile and you'll see Hampden on your left hand side. Plenty of parking round there but probably best to get there early if there's a big crowd.
I should emphasize this only applies if you're going the East Kilbride way. Hope it helps anyway.Last edited by ekhibee; 20-04-2017 at 12:46 AM.

The Raith interchange is fine. The underpass is now open so if heading to EK stick to the outside lane, no need to navigate the roundabouts.

Apparently the new motorway section of the M8 is open, so the roadworks there shouldn't pose a problem.

Only if you go via the roundabout. The underpass has been open 6-8 weeks and means you miss it if you are heading to EK
