Not sure that page mentions the many more killed by the west in Iraq in what many would view as terrorist attacks. I'm contracting myself here but there probably is just as much terrorism in the world as there ever was but the vast majority of it seems to be conducted by elected Governments mostly in the west. If a wiki link is good enough as proof.

Only shows Europe and the U.S. so you can't really say "the world is safer". Also Scotland would never have been bombed by the IRA as the cause of a united Ireland had a lot more sympathy here. Nuclear war was the big fear in the late 70's/early 80's rather than terrorism.

Back on topic this is a shocking attack. Thoughts and prayers with all affected.

Very true. The most dangerous things in the UK tend to be your family and the politicians in Westminster. In America the police are multiple times more deadly to US citizens that ISIS or any other terrorists ever have been. If there was a big terrorist problem they could bring Cities to a stop easily by taking out water and electricity and kill hundreds with nothing more sophisticated than a slab on a railway line. We are being programmed to be fearful. None of that of course excuses any of the bamsticks that perpetrate acts like bombing buses or the grief of those who lose loved ones. Its all about perspective to me. Terrorism is such a small problem in the UK that it is hardly worth thinking about compared to some of the other atrocities that are happening to thousand of our citizens..
Good post, the bit in bold especially so. The point of my post is that the perception of terrorism has increased far beyond the levels of the past, as attacks were mainly localised. Saturation media coverage in the last 15-20 years has highlighted the global nature of the current threat and has become almost a weekly event and I have a feeling that the types of attack from individuals using whatever is to hand will increase as ISIS is pushed out of Iraq and Syria and their 'fighters' disperse.

German Police say serious explosive devices used to attack Dortmund team bus.

    Sky News.

Reports that devices were hidden in hedges on roadside.

Just watching the developments on German TV and a journalist asked if there's any truth that an extortion letter has been found near the scene. The reaction from the Dortmund press relations guy was very suspect.

Marc Bartra has operation on broken bone in his hand, German police saying a note has been found near the hotel the club bus was leaving from, what police believed was a targeted attack against the football side.

I'm a bit confused by the comment from the Police as to having not yet decided if this is a terror attack.

Somebody targeting a bus with three bombs sure sounds like a terror attack to me.

Yes what else could it be irrespective who or what group did it or their motivation to do it.

I am in dortmund for the game, the police AS expected are out in force today with extra checks into the stadium and checkpoints around the stadium. There is a strange atmosphere in the city centre. From what I gather nobody has taken responsability for the attack as yet.

Heard on news it could be any of three groups which may be responsible, islamists, leftists or holligans, all up in the air the noo

Hope you have a great time M and there are no more safety issues.

If you get a chance, check out Strobels next to the stadium

Interesting development but, for some reason, I'm not convinced.

specifically targeting a football team - in a reinforced bus

much easier to let off the explosives in an open, crowded area

Does make me think its someone/a group with a specific grievance against Dortmund

    Who knows tho

I think that's part of it, yeah.

It doesn't seem like their Modus Operandi and the 'Terrorist' aspect is just too convenient.

This must be one of the greatest acts of friendship in football for a long time, I take my hat off to those who took in the Monaco fans, in these troubled times, this is how we all should be thinking rather than allowing terror to tear us apart!!!!

Interview about incident from Dortmund's Nuri Sahin. Articulates his emotions incredibly well, especially for someone speaking in a second language.
