You're wrong. Nobody was ripped off. All money that Hibs/STF owed the BoS was paid back. The bit where the "deal" was done was on the interest payments that BoS could have expected to recieve as income had the contracts run their full term. By paying the loans of early BoS were potentially losing out on the interest they would have made, but balaced by the fact they have their money back.

Only those who work for STF or HBOS know the extent of the write-off.
There was a whole thread on it when it happened. My best guess was that it was around 2m.

That's not the point, of course. What HBOS did was with their consent. What HMFC did to their creditors, Scottish and otherwise, was not.

The way I see it is HBOS have been in a bit of trouble recently and needed cash quickly and Hibs being the community club we are offered them a deal for early repayment which they jumped at. Very public spirited of us.
