    Getting a car remapped

Anyone ever had their car remapped. I'm considering getting it done but my car is under manufacturers warranty, wondering if it I a risk.

It could invalidate your warranty if they find out.

    Interesting read - thank you.

Looks like I will need to wait until the warranty is over.

What is your main reason for considering this, and is it performance related?

It reprogrammes your cars ecu to give it more horsepower. Your car is capable of producing more horsepower than the manufacturer allows.

I have a Skoda with a VAG 1.8 TSI engine. Apparently I can get it remapped so HP increases from 160 to around 205, and I get better fuel economy,,,, how the heck does that work?

Great fun having a remap but puts s lot more pressure on the clutch especially if you floor it from low revs.

You also may need to upgrade your brakes if you go for a significant increase in bhp.

Depends on what car you have and who is doing the work. Mountune can remap Fords and the manufacturers warranty is not affected.

Most manufacturers run the fuel mixture on the rich side as it's more friendly on the engine, the remap leans that out slightly to gain more power.

Most of the remaps now are switchable so you can either switch to a map that takes advantage of premium fuels or switch back to stock for dealer visits.

So do the folk who do this stick to the speed limits i had the pleasure of having a M5 for a few months a number of years ago, it wasn't chipped, didn't really need it, think it had a limiter on it at 155mph, chipped would take it up to 185mph which on certain roads could be reached but not many nowadays.
