    Tilikum (Blackfish)

Tilikum, the killer whale featured in the documentary Blackfish, has died aged 36. Seaworld say they are 'deeply saddened'.

Given the horrendous life those poor animals have in captivity it's probably for the best for him. Hopefully brings us a step closer to the end of killer whales being held in tanks.

My family and I were deeply moved by the film which I recommend to anyone. The emotional intelligence of these animals is quite amazing and plucking them from their families in the Pacific North West and putting them into a tiny tank was, basically an act of torture for the purpose of making money...

it's fantastic that the subsequent boycott of Seaworld has been so successful. A company I'd like to see go to the wall.

You want people to lose their jobs over killer whales?

Yeah I'd have no problem with that.

To flip it you want to see unethical and immoral treatment of intlligent animals continue because the perpetrators employ people?

The counter argument could also be that it's their continued use of killer whales, an animal wholly unsuited to captivity, that is seeing the boycott carry on so successfully which in turn threatens jobs.

If those jobs involve the inhumane and torturous treatment of killer whales then yes, I do.

Id probably be more sympathetic (re. Jobs), if the huge size of the park was devoted to giving these mammals and other aquatic creatures a decent space to live in (where release is not an option), but the place is crammed with roller coasters and shops.

    Yup.

Any people who torment and abuse animals for the 'entertainment' of insensitive morons SHOULD lose their jobs. Like the folk who train monkeys to ride bicycles, or the guys who out rings through bears' noses and torment them into 'dancing'.

If watching creatures dance or ride bicycles or swim round in ever-decreasing circles is so much fun, let the humans do it themselves for a few years.

I'd also like to see the guys who run Gitmo lose THEIR jobs.
