You wouldn't have to pay it if you were bankrupted.
I think what folk are trying to say is, how were they allowed to get to that amount without the council taking any action against them before they went bankrupt, as folk have said, you miss a few payments and Scott & co are on the case straight away, letters, court action, goods seizure to pay the debt, why were they not chasing them before they went bankrupt.

We don't know that the council didn't take action against them.

In the normal course of things, reminders are sent out.

    More reminders are sent.

Threats of Court action are sent.

Notice of Court action is sent.

All of that is common to both private and business debts. The whole process can take months. If your balls are big enough, or you have no money, you just ignore it. And ... crucially, in Hearts' case, it's all confidential. Even more importantly, the Council can't withhold services, in the way that the Utility companies can. So, generally, they're at the end of the queue.

It's only when it actually reaches Court that it becomes public... and that could be a year or so down the line. Even at that, if the case goes against you, and you still can't or won't pay..... you don't, and accept the consequences.

    Not so Odious

Re the first post on this thread:

It has the line……the Odious Scott Wilson £1000.?

I have known Scott for over 35 years and he has always been a daft Jambo who wears his Heart on his sleeve.
He was actually a very good goalkeeper in his younger days, and played behind me for quite a few years.

So, I think its a bit much, too call him odious, even though he always refers to us as the Wee Team.(He's actually a very funny bloke and great to have a bit of banter with!!).

I don't think any of my Hibby teammates from that era would ever say anything bad about him and he's done a fair amount of Charity Work over the years.

To "the vue from 1875" have you ever met him or been in his company?.

IF you have and thats still your opinion, then thats fair enough, as I realise that we can't get on with everybody.

The 146k they owed Heriot Watt is the one which stands out to me.

Is there any way to see if this was ever settled or just ignored.
Most determined organisations have mechanisms to pursue debts at tight intervals and to a normal conclusion, if the debtor is actively trading they will tend to get judgements / secure assets etc - draw your own conclusion about the apparent inaction here.

Was BIG Hearts Community Trust not their own private charity and was there not a much larger sum of money collected on it's behalf but spent on the team instead? I vaguely remember some rule about charities not being allowed to declare funds which have not arrived in their possession and hence in Administration, Hearts were able to conceal that embezzlement from the final creditor list.

That was almost as bad as stiffing the Lady Haig's Poppy Fund - one of the most shameful acts in the history of Scottish Football.
Big Hearts - I lifted this from their own disclosed creditors list of shame - There was a suggestion there was another list where the trust had a five figured sum "resting" in the yams accounts but a contra rent charge by the yams to their charity disappeared it (?).

Lady Haig Fund - Yep, but if they deny it long enough it will go away?

See HWU above. Where there's a desire to pursue the debt the Council can do it and be into your assets / income fairly quickly, the question is how long does it take to rack up the yam debt and how far down the process were the council when they suddenly became aware they couldn't / wouldn't pay?.

Big Hearts lost £36k. They were charged that amount for 'rent' for desk space in one of the club's offices. The club had collected the amount through a variety of ways (can collections, donations, charity grants etc) but used the funds for 'rent' instead of giving the money for the charity to use. Big Hearts until that point had never been asked to pay rent and had to cancel many projects and staff lost out on work. This was when they were struggling to pay the player's wages.

To be fair this is the guy that was looking forward to the money spinning replay against us in the cup so he does have previous for being disconnected from reality.

Debts of 7 and 8 quid that they owed but didn't pay back. Show them for the two bit low level parasites they are. Bus station conmen.

Ripping off charities is about as low as it gets and they know it.

    Saw this too

Nelson - "we have the best training facilities in Scotland by a country mile".

    Fails on two counts.

    A) No it isn't.

    B) It's not yours.

The rephrased version should have said

"We hire Heriot Watt's facilities when we have cash to do so and it ranks among the best although Hibs, Celtic and The Rangers have their own ones and we extremely jealous that we cannot and never will afford our own"

    Nice try though Chewbacka

Really xxxxxxx me off - 'We have the best training facilities in Scotland'. As 'Greencastle' says, that they're so great that they can't afford to play their developement games there !

He also slavered something about 'soon having the infrastructure to challenge Septic for the league' - must be approaching time for half-season ticket sales and they need to milk their Muppets again !

    GGTTH.
Nah he's a massive hearts cock.

So you can forget about the debts of over £20m plus the 16m of debt forgiveness by ukio winkas but as long as you pay the football debt, which was a tiny percentage of the overall debt then that's ok. I'm sure Scott Wilson is a nice guy but when he is spouting his crap at the pbs he's anything but. My mate has stopped going to the pbs and just says he can't be bothered because the football is pish. I think it's more to do with him being a decent person and does feel ashamed at all the time around Romanov. Obviously one of the few from them with a conscious. Can't stomach anything to do with that club. I have to put up with them socially and they talk the biggest load of tripe you've ever heard. I'm sure some of them are those that post on every hibs post in the Scotsman. The club with no class and no shame.

This 'praise up' sounds like friends trying to make out their kiddy-fiddling best pal was a good lad at heart because of all the charity work he did I think he is a genuinely sound gadgey...apart from being a Jambo. Those of us who haven't met him, or known him in a previous life, can probably only judge him on his behaviour at Tynie. I can see why people get frazzled with him, his constant digs at the 'wee team' and his regular highlighting of hyper-inflated attendances can get on some people's diddies. As you say, we can't get on with everyone.

He is an utter bell end whom I wouldn't pish on if he was on fire, let alone speak to.

Not only did he spout the nonsense that he did and get shafted by them for doing it, but he then went back and did it again.

Have a bit of pride man or some self worth.

It wasn't the Lady Haig Poppy Fund or the Big Hearts Community Trust your mate did all this charity work for was it?

If so, all that sterling work seems to have been offset a tad.

A total of 28,421,917 we should never let them forget this
If you add in the debt for eqity swaps, the "debt forgiveness" and the dodgy inter company invoices I believe the figure tops £70m.

But as a yam pointed out the DFE swaps were a transaction and that UBIG got Hearts FC shares in return for their cash.

And folk wonder (usually Yams) how they went bump?

On the poppy fund debt I once had an epic spat with Lord Foulkes on twitter which really, really annoyed the bastirt.
